Some of our older supporters will no doubt see an immediate comparison with another 18 year old ‘wonder kid’ - Ally McCoist - who signed for SAFC 30 years ago from St Johnstone, despite being courted by many other top English clubs.

Unfortunately that deal didn’t work out for either party so after two years he returned to Scotland to resurrect his career with Rangers and the rest is history.

Only time will tell whether this lad is in the same class as Ally, but, assuming the deal goes through, I hope he is given the time to develop without the burden of responsibility that inevitably follows such a high profile transfer.

If he doesn't get a hat trick in his 1st match he deserves all the abuse he gets! <laugh>

On a serious note I agree with what your saying Argus, it's a big step up for the lad and assuming the medical goes well, exciting times ahead for him. I reckon Bruce will break him in gently (not like that), with sub appearances at 1st, get a taste of playing in front of bigger crowds, what's expected of him then hopefully let the good times roll! :emoticon-0148-yes:

If he turns out to be half as good as Ally in the long run, I'll be more than happy!!

Nice post Argus. I very much doubt he'll be rushed forward to the first team and I hope we won't have to; Gyan wasn't and he was far more combative and experienced.

Ally still became a cult hero at Sunderland at that time, despite his lack of goals, because his ability was plain to see. Who knows how his career would have turned out had he stopped in England?

Talking to an Ipswich supporter on the train back from Manchester the other day, reckons Wickham is the next Rooney and if we get him for any less than £10m its a bargain. But...lets see how it goes, I hope he's a Gareth Bale not a Giles Barnes!!!

spot on argus, I think if we do get him it will be on the assumption that he is part of the first team but probably on the bench. A lot depends on who we still bring in, right now he is first choice because he and Gyan are all we have, all that will change over the coming weeks.
