I have to agree with Mick in one of the comments he has made. We are in need of players rather than trying to get shot of any (that are actually ours)
I understand your theory of selling to buy but I don't think we'll get much, we're in a relegation fight so if he helps us stay up it'll be worthwhile and I also imagine Mick has been told he will be given a bit of money and he will look to supplement his current squad rather than de-stabilise and rebuild it midway through the season, particularly as it is very unbalanced and unstable as it currently is.

Fair Point King. I agree we do need more players just dont want to see us lose another 1.7m signing for nothing. Also whose decision is it? Clegg said the situation wouldnt happen again, the manager says it might. Why cant we go back to the old days when this stuff didnt happen.

So much for this sh!t not happening again... we have 11 permanent players whose contract runs out this season..admittedly there is no one on that list that i'd particularly want to keep.

It's all very de ja vu with the Leadbitter situation last season. Personally if he ups his form the way Leadbitter did in the final third of last season then I fancy we'll be moving up the league and out of trouble, you have to ask the questions

    1) Why would he sign for us again
    - if we are staring down the barrell?
    - we are offering him less money?
    2) Why would we offer him a long deal on big money (see previous two points)
    3) If we sell him, what will we get for him?
    4) Is it worth taking the punt that he can effectively help us get out of trouble therefore making the money we could of sold him for worthwhile losing out on in the short term to help us out in the long term?

    Firstly, who would buy him?
Second, he's not worth what we are paying him so what would make him think he could make more elsewhere?
I honestly can't see any championship teams being interested in him, they haven't before.
I don't want to see him sign a new contract anyway, like Murphy he could be easily replaced with a lower league player on less wages (but would be more wages than said lower league player was on so he'd be very happy)

Really cannot believe the club are in this position again De ja vu. IMO this is part of the reason we are in the situation we are in. We fail to offer players we want to keep a contract in the summer and then we start poorly so the focus comes to 'concentrating on staying up' then in the second part of the season when we pick up form we try to keep that player but then their head has already been turned so they go somewhere else. Then the summer comes and we need a replacement trying to rebuild all the time.

The McAuley Norris situation was ridiculous because as far as I'm aware the club always wanted to keep them, although I'm not dissapointed that we let Norris go. I can understand the Leadbitter situation a bit more because I don't think the club overly wanted to keep him until he started putting decent performances in toward the end.

IMO if we can I think we should try to keep Martin, it's one of those situations where if we were to sell him if we got anything more than 500k I'd be amazed and then we'd need to find a replacement. As the case was when McAuley was here people didn't mind that he was going because the opinion was that there was much better out there but there wasn't and we are still trying to replace him. I think it's better to keep what you've got than get rid then try to get better in if you're in the situation we are in where we've had a revolving door of players over the past 3 years, we need a bit of continuity.

But on the other hand it depends on wages and IMO if he's on £12,000 a week which he is rumoured to be on there's no way he should get a better deal, he's not worth £12,000 a week, he certainly hasn't earnt that. He's showed more in the past year to make me think he could be a decent player at this level but that's 1 year out of 4 and even in that year he's flattered to decieve on occassion!!

Martin's just another ever-present in an underperforming team. Time to ship him out. He has had plenty of chances to show us what he's about and I'm afraid to say it's not much is it? If Carson had seen as much game time last season as Lee I'm sure he would've scored more goals (an easy feat to accomplish) or been more effective with assists. Trouble is we have defensively weak full backs who need help from those in front of them hence we end up using the more solid choices in Martin and Murphy.
