He was good in his prime, but never world class. The **** got away with so many incidents were he should have been sent off it's unbelievable. I remember a season where he was sent off twice but should have been at least 4 times. He's strong and powerful, but his decision making has never been excellent nor his reading of the game. A few years ago I was being slapped by people around me for suggesting this. He's been injury prone and inconsistent for ages and completely over rated.
Vidic had one bad game against torres and thats all 10 times the defender Carragher was that's for sure. Though that's not hard lol.
That's not true, he only ever run straight passed him PS...Hyypia did it for over ten years #bestforeigncbinpremyears
Naa he was quality for about 4 years. I would say his was world class. Only person who could really touch him in the League was Torres.
Vidic has won 5 PL titles, and a CL with us. He also played every game when we broke the PL record for clean sheets in a row, managing to go 10 games without conceding a goal. Yes his form has dipped recently, but that's mainly due to becoming injury prone, when your playing 1 week and injured the next it's hard to hold your form. The only stick anyone has to beat him with is the Torres one. It was one game where he had a nightmare against Torres ffs, and that's pretty much all his critics can use against him. As for Sami Hyypia, there is a reason why Liverpool could never win the PL title, and it wasn't because of there midfield of Xabi Alonso, Mascherano and Steven Gerrard along with Torres in his prime up front. It was because they had 2 average clowns in defence, in Sami Hyypia and Jamie Carragher. Neither where solid enough to keep clean sheets when the team was playing badly, to grind out 1-0 wins. Those are the games that win you titles the 1-0s when the teams playing poorly and that's why Vidic was such a great player, as him and Rio together where such a great defensive partnership
That's pretty much the mark of one of the best defenders in the modern game. The way the game is at the moment, tackling is as close to illegal as you like, and attackers know that even a terrible dive has about a 50% chance of winning a pen and a 10% chance of getting a booking. Ultimately the only way to defend at the top level is to learn how to get away with stuff - the alternative is to play honest and have someone like Suarez make a fool out of you with fairy footwork and dives. Terry has been one of the best in the world for years thanks mainly to his ability to pull shirts in the box without the ref noticing, and that's pretty much the only defensive tool Skrtel has. It's a vital skill on the continent too - I remember Ramos in last year's CL making two or three sneaky fouls on our players then waving them back to their feet as one of their players took the loose ball. Sad but true.
Carragher was never first choice for England at Centre half for a good reason, it was Rio and Sol and then Rio and Terry. He had some great games in Europe over the years, but his performances week in week out where never that of a world class centre half
Reina picked up the golden glove award at least twice The reason we didn't win it is because we lacked wide players and had no depth in the squad. Hyypia/Agger and Carragher were immense at that time (it was the latter stages of Sami's career, Agger had already started to become part of the first team)
Vidic roundhouse kicked Chuck Norris and knocked him out, nobody else has ever done that. True story, its on Matths twatter feed
With centre backs it usually the partnership that sets them apart, Vidic was a very good player and regardless of his individual abilty he has always forged a good partnership with whoever is alongside him. Man Utd fans will be gutted he's going as he would be a good partner for whoever they bring in but now surely 2 centre backs are needed?
