Why are players wanting away from our club suddenly. When Laudrup stared 2 years ago players were happy and willing to come to Swansea. It appears now that the situation has reversed with players unhappy and looking to leave. If reports are to believed we could lose up to 8 first team squad players. It was only a few weeks back that Monk was saying that Michu Hernandes and Ki had long futures at the club, now all three are on the verge of leaving so what's going wrong.
It's not hard to understand. Laudrup told us that a number of players came here for him and not for Swansea. That was obviously true because they were in many cases players he'd either worked with or who were aware of his managerial exploits in Spain which included taking Getafe (a similar club to ours) a long way. So it's no surprise to anyone that Michu and Hernandez want to go. I'm surprised Chico hasn't followed suit and he may do so yet we don't know. Canas and Pozuelo may be in the same boat though it looks like they've been frozen out by Monk rather than the other way around. As for Ki - well Laudrup played him out of position here and Swansea hasn't been a happy place for him so no real surprise there either. Monk was probably only setting out the Club's position in that we'd like these players to stay but if they want out then so be it. It looks like Monk is unable or unwilling to persuade these players to stay for whatever reason, and whether we like it or not Monk is never going to be as attractive as a manager like Laudrup was so we'd better get used to it. For example, Gomis is not here for Monk or Swansea he's here for the dosh. I've got no problem with that at all but the days are gone when the Swans have a Manager who has a 'name' and who attracts players because of it. In the short term at least I expect it to be a case of losing some quality whilst gaining players untested at this level. We've already seen some players choose to go elsewhere rather than here - Montero being one example - and that'll continue imo.
Michu,Pablo,Canas and Pozuelo only performed well occasionally for us last season and Ki did not feature at all so getting rid of dead wood to free up wages for replacements. If Ben or Neil leave the other one stays and Kingsley will be backup hopefully in the same way Ben did when Neil got injured. I hope Bony stays but if he does leave we have signed Gomis and have been linked to other strikers. As for Montero I have only seen the odd poster saying he is not signing for us and I think they are mixing him up with Poyer who has refused to talk to us.
Can of worms here but in fairness a very debatable topic. I Think the clique has been inverted , we now Are back to the old Guard being the main men here and things revertimg to our pre premier league team. Seems things Are being RE set , SIFO us big wages Are being let go and new yound players like bartly, foulton and the other falkirk kid Are coming in and Will be happy to run through brick walls for the manager. I have to say that it seems There is perhaps a lack of respect for monk in the wake of his appointment after laudrups sacking,at least from the spanish lads, i would not be suprised to see chico and amat move on also . Thing is its all guess work as nobody has a clue what the fook has gone on. Michu s reputation in his career has been impecible, his loyalty without question his attitude on the field has been to die for the shirt,he leaves nothing on the field,100% every time..then laudrup got sacked. I dont sunscribe to him being sulky because laudrup went,he knows things like that can happen in football, i Think the cloak and dagger nature of the way laudrup was sacked and the way some senior players were talking to the chairman was the main factor in him losing respect for the club. Respect is the key issue here for me. Michu is a passionate guy and his reactions tell me something serious was going on in the dressing room. Our senior players like ash, monk and leon may have been doing what they thought was right for the swans, same with the board, we know the board do what they Think is best for the club, somewhere along the way There was a massive conflict of interest and it all came græving down. We have basically changed one clique for another IMO . It looks a shambles from the outside but from the inside the plan may be totally on track we just dont know.
What is the point of this kind of thread? None of us have the inside track, so it's all complete guesswork. Just go with the flow. We can't affect any of it, so just settle back and enjoy the ride.
Two steps forward, Three steps back. Let's hope not, but one thing is clear .... no scoring, no more Prem football. The List of players apparently wanting out contains the most creative players we have had in a long while. Monk is no Sousa. No scoring, No "Sousa" to coach the gap closed .... the result is obvious to me. No amount of stamina, strength and running through brick walls or otherwise is going to bridge the gap of technique and creativity and shape and system. We played the likes of City extremely well last season because we had all of those things - we were able to control long periods of a game and threaten the best of the best. We may yet be surprised ... but I look at the way we played and were organized at the end of last season, I look back on the Southampton game in particular and I see writing on the wall. Players with contracts in the Prem don't leave to go back to non-Prem wages and the non-elite clubs in La Liga unless they don't see any value for themselves here with us. Agents and players are not stupid, they go where there is value, and they are as close to it all as one can get. They know the true situation. They are, as NJ has stated using Michu as an example, players with loyalty. They may not talk about the situation, but they will tell us what's going on with their feet. If they walk then they have no confidence in the current club setup. I find it cruelly ironic that the one coach - Sousa - who made such a huge difference upon inheriting a lack of offensive resources and a leaky defense, is exactly the type of coach we need in this bridge season with creativity walking out the door. And Sousa was the first to have the bulls eye and knife put in his back by Monk et al.
All this Monk bashing has to stop, assumptions have been made by many posters on this forum that player power by within the club and them not being happy with certain managers and thier methods is all nonsense, how do any of you know for sure that any of this has gone on? Simple really you dont! Its about time wegot behind Gary and give him our full support instead of all the negative made up nonsense some post!
Two things, you ask how do we know these things have gone on. You are right we dont. How do you know they havent. The second point is that a lot of the negativity is people watching good players wanting to leave, we have to ask why and that is the whole point of the forum for people with opposing views to debate the issues. I have no issue with GM. Did i want him as full time manager the answer is no. I dont feel he has enough experience firstly as a coach and secondly to rebuild a Pl squad. considering his experince in that is zero. Am I behind him 100% yes. Am i concerned at him being able to build a squad, 100% yes. I have no issue with players wanting to leave as it happens every year and each reason for them wanting to leave will be different. My concern this year is that we seem to be losing some very important players which have done well for us over the last couple of years, now providing we replace with better players is fine, but there are some concerns that we wont. We will have to wait and see, I just hope the club get this right. But you cant and wont stop people debating the subject and neither should we.
Check out Pozuelo's through ball for Routledge's goal v Man U in the cup. I could go on - isn't Michu creative? Some seem to welcome threads that speculate on comings and goings at the club because "it's fun to speculate" but when a perfectly decent thread asking a pertinent question as to why some players want out (an unequivocal fact) it's perceived as having "no point" or even "Monk bashing" I agree 100% with TLF. Most posters here were against the Monk appointment and for good reason but that doesn't mean to say we all hope he screws up, because if he does we've had it and I for one would rather say I was wrong than say 'I told you so' when it comes to the fortunes of Swansea City.
Valley I dont whether that is for me, But havent mention creative. I said, Important, Hernandez certainly, I hate to see Michu leave and I know it is only speculation but others have been linked with moves away. I know everyone will bang on about Michu's injury, but I would rather have him than not. If we lose him and god forbid the scousers or the cockneys take Bony, their contributuions over the last 2 seasons in terms of goals have kept us in the league, I have no doubt about that. We somehow have to replace those goals and that is not goin to be easy, we may also lose JDG goals and creativity. As long as they are replaced with players as good as or even better fantastic, but the signings at the moment dont inspire me. Gomis is a great signng and i have no doubt do well but he is nt a big goal scorer. I do trust the club and have to sit and wait and see what happens but, I can really understand peoples concerns at the moment.
I believe you are very close to the truth about Michu, loyalty and cliques. I hope you're wrong about Chico because if he goes I believe Amat will also leave, we sound like we are losing Ben, Ash and Rangel appeared to be slowing down last season, Bartley is injury prone and inexperienced. That leaves us with Tiendalli, Jazz and Talor as three of the back four; none of whom have the quality needed to be regular first teams players. Vorm will be looking to move - not happy when he heard we'd signed Fabianski. The we appear to have Poz, Canas, Pablo, Ki and Michu (all fairly regular last season) all leaving and possibly wanting to leave. That must be sending a very loud message to agents and players. Swansea City will have to pay top dollar in order to stand still. We haven't ( yet) improved the midfield in defence or attack and have a goalkeeper who has missed a great deal of time with injury and is certainly no better than what we had.
Trunds that was in response to Yankee sayibg creativity walking out the door. Having trouble using the reply with quote function on my phone
I hold my hands up and say I was not sorry to see Laudrup go because performances prior to his sacking suggested to me that he had lost the dressing room and we were going down. I was and am neutral about Monk's appointment but the results did improve after he took over. It was Sousa's choice to go to a perceived bigger club Leicester. Perhaps we did not back him in the transfer market but remember we did not have Premier League income and probably did not have the finance available.
I am not so sure there, I agree the game against cardiff looked a different side. But, we slipped way below that for a long while afterwards and didnt win another game until 29/3/14. But as I have said earlier I am not here to bash GM, I really hope he suceeds.
For those that want to pretend all was and is good in 2014 so far , fill your boots and trudge along . Just dont expect everyone else to pretend players are happy to stay or willing to come . 100% behind Garry Monk , because he is our current manager , regardless of how he got his job . 0 % behind Jenkins these days , dropped the ball at the worst possible time in our history, like a common fool .
f** me have you read Monk's book? Look up what he had to say about the Sousa era....surprised it passed you by as the Post published extracts and focused on Monk sticking the knife into Sousa. You gonna tell me that "I don't know what's gone on" when the man published the stuff himself? Did the man himself "get behind" Sousa and Laudrup? Or was he a "negative" influence? You've just got to think about him bitching at Laudrup for daring to hold a press conference to get the measure of the man. Monk, if you're reading, you went behind 2 manager's back to the chairman you had lots of criticism for 2 former European Cup winners who both did good jobs for our club...if you don't like the pressure or the negativity that comes your way when some of our key players of recent times want out I have 2 words for you.....man up.
