Why the sudden belief in a trophy this year?

I'm genuinely unaware of why every single prediction for the season by a Sunderland fan is league position plus at least a cup semi-final. Has Brucie said that's going to be one of the main aims this year or is it just the annual kidding yourselves about a trophy that most Newcastle and Sunderland fans go through

 

Its a dream we al have.

About time we had a jolly to Wembley.

If Stoke/ Portsmouth/ Bolton / Boro can do it, I would like a turn.

I think we have a great chance of a trophy this year. if you look at the team it has alot of british players who all know what a wembley trip means.

Not sure why you say trophy in the title then in your post, cup semi final, thats not a trophy.

I think its more hope than expectation, we need to beat teams like Notts County, you need to beat the Stevenages of this world, OK if we play Man U/Chelsea etc in the early rounds, then its going to be hard going, not imposible, but not easy either, we need a little bit of luck with the draws, but when we get that luck, we need to grasp it and beat teams like Notts County and Stevenage, and make a name for ourselves, not just curl over and die with a wimper like last year.

If we do get that luck, and dont meet the Man United's/Chelsea's of this world, why cant either of us go all the way this year.

As said above, if Pompey/Bolton/Stoke/Cardiff can get to the semi final and beyond then we can.

On the other hand -it's nought more than wishful thinking ...we've been utter shoite in recent years in both cups and now we should have a squad of players that will see us through the season. Also, we have been called/termed 'a good cup side' FFS! If we don't implode mid-season, then we ought to do better in the cups -simples!

I was referring to the tedious mag on the board..... I think we have a decent chance with the cups this yr...... and that excludes the Northumberland cup.
