Seen the article in the telegraph saying we're looking for £15m. He'll still be worth at least that at the end of next season (hopefully more if he does well), so IF we need to sell at all we should be looking more at the £20-25m region.

Are we that hard up for cash that we'd lose @ £20m on a long-term investment for the want of waiting twelve months, at most?

I'm prepared to back this new manager for the long-term and his desire to play good football. Patience all round is needed for all. And that includes Hendo (COULD be a new Terry mac if given time?) and Big Andy. This just smacks as a panic sale to me. Is something about our finances that JH isn't telling us?

Yea, seems a bit mad to me. Why not wait till January.

Rodgers setting himself up for a fall on this one....

I am hoping this is all crap. If not; it'll p*ss me off greatly.

Because if BR can throw away a player before even training with him then he better have a perfect season ahead because I'm expecting his god like prescient powers to be long lasting.

I honestly thought this was all just media bollox because the Euros are over and they're bored. I'm hoping it still is but if we do let him go before he's even had one training session with BR then not only do I think its financially a total and utter farce but I also think it will be immensely unfair on Carroll to not even be given a chance. I really hope this doesn't happen.

For what it's worth from a Newcastle fan, I also reckon its utter media fabrication. Rodgers made a gaffe using Carroll as his example in his press conference, but considering Carroll is fifty times the footballer Danny Graham is he will definitely fit in a system. Part of the problem, in fact most of the problem came from Daglish not understanding Carroll, mismanaging him and effectively leading to a very public regression of the big lad, stupidly seeing him as a big target man and not the very accomplished footballer he actually is.

There is no way FSG will let the guy you paid £37.5m up front for (due to NUFC charging interest on late payments) because of a media whim. Carroll will come good, he's a very good player who will blossom under a decent, forward thinking manager.

Nice post Clarence; I can take the media calling us fools for paying that kind of money for a young player nowhere near his peak, I can take the ribbing from rival fans because let's be honest we'd have done the same if another team had bought at that price.

But we WILL look fools if after throwing that money away we give the English media a helping hand in crapping on the career of a young English star of the future.

And I'll be very embarrassed that my club behaved in such a weak & shoddy way.

Yeah Billy; I agree. Don't like the look of a "self sustaining" model that throws away 20+ mill in transfer money instead of a gamble on around 60k a week AC wages as opposed to bending over backwards to welcome back 2 players on a hell of a lot more a week who frankly despite talking the talk have put no blood on the pitch for our club.... Sense doesn't come near this IF it's true.

Think BR needs to come out and clear things up. This could be FSG's actions.

    1. i think rodgers spoke out of turn in two separate interviews that got combined. Had he said the ac milan stuff was rubbish and not talked about "all players" mentalitys needing to be proved. maybe the hacks at the bbc who use our license to write lies o nthe internet would not have dug into a previous interview and dropped one liners about andy into their article that is driving this speculation.

    2. 95% of stuff is complete made up and hacks asking west ham people about carroll.. trying to make up fees, relinking to newcastle etc.

    3. Rodgers may have alienated the player already.

    4. Rodger might indeed want him gone but has gone about it in a way that would not encourage any player to work with him. anyone looking in form afar or any current player will see carroll not even being back from the euros and being pushed out and spoken badly about.... thats the impression i think goes out now.

    5. who says carroll will get 70-90k elsewhere? if not he could go on loan with us paying at least half those wages and getting nothing for it. he may not want to go and it could be messy.

It does need to be cleared up.. the comment from frank re aquilani who doesn't give a toss about our club or joe cole who ran off to france rather than fight ofr a place is a good one. if they are so welcome what is andy do to rodgers?

I think we were always going to make a loss on Carroll regardless. We will never recoup £35m for him and he could become the best striker in England and will stll not command that fee.

LFC have become a laughing stock because of the prices we played for a decent players such as Carroll and Downing and I get the feeling that Rodgers either just doesn't like them as players (which I can fully understand) or feels that we will constantly have this negative press re. prices for average players, labelling them as flops which can be detrimental to the team, so he wants to have a fresh start.

This has to be total rubbish. If Rodgers gets rid of Carroll for anything less than £25mil without even having a look at him in training then he is a very foolish man and I dont think he would be that stupid.

I agree as I feel Carroll is getting better and is developing. Selling this early on will not allow us to maximise his potential as a player or his potential value.
