I have just been shown a copy of the transfer invoice for Alan Shearers transfer to Toon from Blackburn Rovers. (there's a charity auction going down)

    £15m plus 2.625m VAT.

    £2.625m VAT... greedy bastards.

It got me thinking, does anybody know exactly how much tax is taking from the premier league - Transfers and wages? I bet David Cameron's a Man City fan now..

Didn't realise VAT was charged on transfers, so they'll get 20% of any domestic transfer fees now, meaning £7m for Amy and £10m for Torres. Also if they earn over £150k/year, which a lot of footballers do, then 50% of that goes straight on tax if they're paid straight up wages. Although just did a google to try and find more recent/accurate figures and found this, showing some of the ways players evade the bulk of income tax.
