If I were Paul Jewell then there's one big reason why I would feel that the play offs are not out of our reach... While the statistical logic points to it being a hopeless task, there is one big factor that may see us just scrape in: the fixture list. On the back of a winning streak we should fear no-one, but the momentum will grind to a halt at some point right? Well, not necessarily. Once we get past the next four games - and in fact if we can beat Brighton then Bristol City are in horrible form so it really could be 6 wins on the bounce - the rest of the season we will have home advantage very much in our favour. From our last 11 games a mighty 7 of them will be at Portman Road and the four away games: Watford, Derby, Palace, Millwall - there's no reason why we couldn't take 12 points from those. Better still, with the exception of the Southampton game, all our remaining opponents are either in the play off hunt themselves, in which case we can help our cause even further by beating the likes of Middlesbrough, Birmingham or Hull, or they are sides we could expect to beat in our current form. If I were Paul Jewell I'd be saying to the players, look lads, you're on fire at the moment, let's smash the next few games and then we really will be in with a fighting chance. We need 75-78 Points to make the play-offs based on previous seasons! So that means we need another 38 points to be sure which is 12 wins out of the last 15 games! A Big Big ask and I don't think that it is realistic tbh. If we can finish in the top 10 with 70 points based on our current form I will be delighted with that!
I agree JWM its not going to happen this year but would be happy if we keep up the performances and desire of the last 4 games until the end of the season .
Hey, today was probably our second most difficult game after Southampton for the rest of the season. I don't think anyone was falling for Poyet's self- deprecation. The fixture list still looks as sweet as it possibly could
Look at the fixture list and then tell me what's deluded about saying it's a good run in Carra? I think you'll find in the OP I do say statistically it's a hopeless task... so I suggest you look it up in the dictionary
The championship is a wide open league where bottom can beat top and results are hard to predict. It takes an arrogant and fooolish man to predict that a mid to lower team will win the majority of their remaining fixtures.
Flippin' hell, that's about as rich as a triple chocolate fudge cake with triple chocolate clotted cream ice-cream and double cream!
The fact that you said and I quote - "If I were Paul Jewell then there's one big reason why I would feel that the play offs are not out of our reach........." means that you are quite clearly the deluded one. I would put my mortgage on Ipswich not getting within 5 points of the play-offs.
Let's see if you'll put your money where your mouth is then Carra and put your mortgage on that - 6 points or more away from the play offs. I'll look forward to seeing the betting slip
