Why did you lot give Carroll such a bad reception?

My understanding is that he did not have a lot of choice in the transfer and when the money was agreed he was told that the club were accepting the offer and that he was free to go.

The club did not reject the offer and try to keep the player so what was he supposed to do refuse to leave?

It seems it's your owners that should be getting the flak not Andy Carroll, the guy has also been a Newcastle fan all his life so maybe deserves a bit of respect.

What are your views as this is not a dig at you lot I just don't get the reaction. <rofl>

    Andy could have said No.

    It's like a sexual relationship.

The big Sugar Daddy swings into town and spots a delectable long haired lovely, woos and pampers with promises and before you know it you've been date raped and lying in a bath tub full of ice with one kidney.

    Well. You get the point.

Andy could have walked away. Instead he has one kidney and had to watch Boyzone.

    The shame.

    Yes.

We expect this from Mike Ashley, but £35m is good money so we can't blame him, but Carroll could have said no if he really wanted to stay. And then when he leaves, he tells us he was forced out, but then tells Liverpool that he couldn't turn them down...

This thread doesnt even warrant a proper answer. <doh>

Carroll signed a 5 year deal here in november/december, saying he wants to emulate Shearer.

Liverpool come and bid for him the last day of January, £30m, the bid is rejected. Carroll demands a pay rise, claiming if he doesnt get it that he wants to leave the club. We refuse to offer him another contract, he hands in a transfer request.

He jumped at the first opportunity, for money only.

I was just thinking I wish I had teachers like him. Maybe I would learn more if everything was put into a sexual context.

He agreed personal terms with Liverpool before they'd agreed a fee with the club. He then used that to blackmail the club into giving him an improved deal and when Pardew said no he handed in a transfer request. He's a greedy ****, that's why we hate him. He went on about what an honour it was to wear the famous number nine, and then ****ed off at the first opportunity, leaving the club he supposedly loved severely weakened. He risked relegating us for a bit of extra cash.

Also, you say this **** about the club forcing him out. Are you suggesting that within two hours of being told a bid was accepted he was able to get down to Liverpool, agree terms, have a medical, check out the area, make an informed decision about whether he really wanted to leave the club he supported as a kid for money all before the transfer window closed? He'd been touting himself to Liverpool for days (if not weeks) beforehand, you don't make such a life changing decision on the spur of the moment.

search for an interview with carroll before his transfer, thyre all loaded with "i want to play here for the rest of my career", "no.9 Newcastle shirt is my dream come true" "i'm not going anywhere" type statements. Half a month later he jumps ship for a big paycheck, can you not see how we feel let down by one of our own?

Imagine Gerrard, just after he'd broken on to the scene and you all knew he was going to be the next big thing, professing his love for liverpool, then chelsea or someone come along with their chequebook and BAM, he's gone (before you can say moneygrabbing judas).

Don't think Carroll was forced out if he wanted to stay he would've
I'm not annoyed about the fact he left, but the fact he said he wouldn't before hand

and any true "lifelong newcastle fan" wouldn't leave for the money

As already been stated he jumped for the first big money offer and didn't give a damn about the position he left the club in. Add in the fact that Pardew refused an immediate payrise (just two months after his last one) but did say that they would discuss a rise in the summer. Carroll couldn't wait six months and asked for a transfer.

    Mercenary twat!

Been covered already very nicely but he's a ****er. Did the unimaginable to any true Newcastle fan and spouted lies to us, all for a bit extra money (not as though we were underpaying him is it?)

And yes, there is no way of forcing a player out when you have given him a 5 year contract, it would have been very very easy for him to stay.

    much as the above.

he had everything any local lad could dream about in their wettest of dreams. money, the number 9 shirt, the love of the fans. he had godhood and more money than he would ever be able to spend on a plate at newcastle.

and he spat on it for the difference between "more money than he could ever spend" and "much more money than he could ever spend".

we really liked him. he didn't really like us. it hurts a bit. we're a bit bitter

to use a different sexual analogy, imagine you've just become engaged to the woman of your dreams, who can't stop telling the world about how much she loves you and how happy you make her. And then she jumps into the passenger seat of the first car that's flasher than yours while your backsturnedfor a moment. it'd be hard to find nice things to say about her
