Why shopaholics QPR must learn when to put away the wallet http://www.london24.com:80/sport/qp...t_learn_when_to_put_away_the_wallet_1_1448955
Or just someone who never really made it as a proper journalist writing crap on tin-pot sites to "get noticed". Quite a few of them around.
He doesn't even mention that there were two batches of players bought last Summer - freebies and panic buys - both of which were dictated by the external factors at the time. This year Hughes is buying the players he wants BECAUSE of the external factors (ie the stability of the board and unity in vision) and trimming the squad at the other end (most of whom were very high earners in Championship terms). No mention of the "trying to get ti sorted early" strategy which I am particularly impressed with either. He sort of has a point but the fact of the matter is that this is a revolution and we weren't going to have the potential to break the top 10 by signing 2 more players. This year we might not break the top 10 anyway but at least we've given ourselves every chance.
Don't see much wrong with it, only stating the fact that we have spent money like a drunk sailor on leave. But I disagree with him, we have needed everyone bar a couple of NW desperate summer signings. What we should be judged on are the ones that have arrived after Hughes took the reins imo. Not to mention the clear out of Championship standard players on huge wages.
I actually think the author has a point somewhat....adding too many faces too quickly can upset the balance, but we desperatley lacked depth and quality....i'd rather take the gamble of adding lots of quality, then trying to keep the team full of Championship players stable.
The article makes a some good points, particularly the point about most signings being qualified rather than outright success. The key difference this year though is that the majority of our signings are coming in pre-season as opposed to much later. We are light years ahead of last year in terms of being prepared for the new season.
I took him seriously until "Bobby Zamora, Nedum Onuoha, Anton Ferdinand and Jay Bothroyd all ranked as qualified â rather than outright - successes" Bothroyd a qualified success
This is THE point. How the hell can you appraise the club's purchasing policy over the last year, and leave out the biggest factor of all. The fact that the Goons left it until days before the start of last season to sell, thus forcing the new owner to make panic buys from a pool of "left over" players. Poor journalism.
@QPRTimes Seems not many fans agree with my piece on #QPR's transfer policy. It's a game of opinions. I'll be delighted if my worries are unfounded.
George Ian Cooper ‏@QPRTimes @Northolt_QPR Agreed, but I said it raised questions, not a bad signing...If QPR finish 17th next season what happens, six more players?
Well said Bob. I thought it was a reasonable piece. The Uber Optimists (that had us finishing in the top-ten this time last year) should try keep their feet on the ground. Sure things are looking good for our Club at the moment but lets not get carried away.........................................again.
But true. In this technological age anyone can write and have it "published" on supposed news sites. This is how aspiring hacks build up their CVs. We've seen them on the boards before and they'll keep appearing until they have to get a proper job.
I have asked this question several times in the last few weeks, WHERE IS ALL THIS MONEY COMING FROM? If TF is slowly building up our debt in the background then we could become another Pompey /Leeds etc very quickly. If on the other hand, the Mittals are splashing the cash then i say spend away. I would love this question answered. It might put away the lingering fears that i have in the back of my mind. A club our size can't afford our recent outlay on players and wages.
