Cheers. The place in Africa cropped up when I googled, but not the story. I can sleep easy now. A day without learning, as they say.
It's a desert, barren wasteland that has no effective modern communications. Bit like Hull & East Yorkshire really.
When I worked for KC I was told it was an employee that just came up with it. Had no idea he or she got it from a geographical location though. Incidentally, the name KC will be retired soon too, so The Circle will be called the KCOM Stadium.
Truth be told , It is derived as a working company name , from a clan of Ancient Indigenous Aboriginals who were by by appropriation of nature, lazy of speech , always reverting to "Pidgin" English and slang Inferences , Inc , the shortening of names , like, " Barry" to "Baz" , etc. because of international Rules of Business Registration and wishing to preserve the oldest known culture of communication on the Planet. The tribe, thought they would set up a business , hiding the branding behind an Anachronism , and Incorporating the Acronym (N.G.A) to allow the term KAROO to stand out, and bring the Anachronism in to effect, In allowing the name to refer to the African region of Karoo. When in fact cleverly concealing , the full meaning of the Karoo word is a play on the word "KANGAROO". The Acronym in hiding from the full word, is 2 fold. The 3 Black Fellas cementing the company are "Neil" , " Gonda" , & "Alby" from the "Nulla Gubba Abo's". Source... Handed down by Dreamtime Stories & Cave Drawings.
They've changed their name from KC to KCom, it would be a bit daft to sponsor something using a different name to the company you're trying to promote.
I suspect as I don't live in Hull, I tend to forget that KC/KCOM/Whatever sponsor the ground, as in, actually hand over money to sponsor it. I just think of it as The KC, like how the **** could you call it owt else. Dutch, **** you. That actually works. I just found myself saying it...thank **** I'm working from home...
KCOM reminded me of lines from an ee cummings poem: (cccome? said he ummm said she) you're divine!said he (you are mine said she) It'll be a bit unfortunate if people call it the Kccome Stadium.
Why do KC sponsor anything by the way? The huge majority of their customers have no choice but to use them
