Why is the community shield so undervalued?

Was just wondering if anyone thought the same as me with regards to the community shield? I dont get why it has such a low profile, like the super cup and the world club champs.
I dont understand why, when the pre requiste for qualification is winning the league and winning the domestic cup that the profile is not higher.
Same with the world champs, you have to win your continents leading trophy in order to just qualify, i realise I will get slaughtered but i fully understood why Utd were allowed to dip out the FA cup to go to the world club champs (dont get why they could not have put reserves in fa but). For some reason being the most consistent and sometimes luckiest team over a season has been elevated above all other trophies.
And dont tell me the league never lies, as last season proved it yet again and I dont mean in England, as in Spain the side who is currently regarded as the greatest club side ever lost the league to Real therefore making Real the best side ever surely.
Anyway i would have been made up if we had been there today and eccstatic if we had won it, but very little being made of it - just dont get it -sigh-

Its a glorified friendly for the most part but like the League cup it has recently become a little more than that thanks to Jose Mourniho at Chelsea <ok>

It's only of interest if your team is in it.

Its the curtain raiser to the new season, so it is important. It should be publicised more and have more exposure.

And all of the above thats what i dont get, its silverware with diifficult prerequisite so it should be worth more. The emirates cup to me is the glorified friendly (not trying to anger arsenal fans), and things like the amsterdam trophy (i think thats what it was called). But i am gutted we not involved today, almost as much as if we were not in champs league final, clearly it just me :(

gotta repsect the players not wanting to miss the start of the season via injury in that game though. It could mean someone else grabbin your spot if you get injured.

I would not risk it and would not cry over losing it

The shield does show that you had a good season last season if nothing more.

Like the supercup, if you are in it last season was successful.

However in terms of this season it means very little other than a boost for the early weeks.

    Spot on.
It doesn't determine in any way what a team will do in the new season. Some people used to call it ''putting down a marker'' or ''a statement of intent''. Manchester United are the last side to have won the league having won the community shield. Very few teams win the league having won the community shield.
So in a nutshell with regards to the new season..it means nothing.

I'll watch because I'll watch any football, but it means very little to me if I'm honest. If your team is in it it's obviously more interesting, I'd rather watch our friendly today than the Shield.

I will defo watch it. i wonder what it would do to a team if they got absolutely destroyed in it, like Arsenal v Utd or Utd v City last season.

Break out the champagne, it won't happen again for 6 months..Fernando Torres has scored for Chelsea. You did say worst player, or was it Savic for City?
