Because they can put on 5 X 1 hour superb documentaries in succession in one evening.
It's now 1:00 a.m. UK time, just about to view the 4th doc. in a row.
    Check 'em out ( 10 p.m Sat GMT to 3 a.m Sun).
Many of you may have seen the shows before...brilliant stuff.
BBC iPlayer will surely keep 'em around for a while.

I got stood up tonight btw.
    My good fortune :emoticon-0100-smile

I've taped all the stones stuff from Friday night.

Why I say taped instead of sky plussed it I don't know.

BBC Four is what most TV channels should aspire to be like.

With the odd film and bit of sport thrown in.

Though when they do show films, they're usually really good ones. Last one I remember watching on there was Zodiac, one of my faves.

Bloody 'ell Chazz, you've just reminded me of one of the retirement projects I promised I'd get to grips with.
God knows how much I have, but it has to be getting on for 3-400 hours of reel-to-reel music I recorded from vinyl/cassette in the late 70's- late 80's.
Got all the software & hook ups to pull it off, but about 10 years ago I discovered my reel-reel machine had seized up and I haven't got round to fixing it yet. Bet the acetate has disintegrated, even though the stuff is stored in a reasonably cold environment.
I'm not gonna live long enough finish the deal, and I'm damn sure my lad won't be bothered when I've gone.
At least youtube makes it easy to find the stuff - although my cataloguing system is pretty crap.
    Aghh.

I loved the repeat of the Mick Jagger interview from the 80s(?). The interviewer asked Jagger how long the Stones could keep going given that their bassist was in his 50s.
As always they included the footage of 1964 concert at the Hull ABC that my sister went to.

It’s just an age thing Chazz, think most of us are guilty of it!

I still talk about records, although I believe they’re making a comeback.

I haven't been able to get BBC whilst away even with a VPN. However, can get ITV and have watched some good documentaries on there. The one about the guy who discovered DNA was fascinating.

They started a two-parter last night on the 1967 summer of love. Fascinating stuff on the hippy movement and the drug culture of the era. Weird to see people in their late 70's and possibly older still advocating the benefits of LSD and mind expansion. Mind you if they want real conciousness expansion they should come to one of my shows!

It was a very good, vintage year, and an interesting program. You had to be there. :emoticon-0105-wink:

A couple of summers later, we had this...

There's an alleged George Best quote in this Corky Laing interview...

I recorded BBC's 2-parter - Syria: the Worlds war. Finally got round to watching it the other day.
Absolutely outstanding documentary, telling the story from the start in 2011 up to the present. Some incredible footage, including horrific scenes and insights. Highly recommended, especially if, like me, you sit there watching the news thinking 'what was this actually all about'.

I haven't rewritten anything, I've merely deleted a sentence, for reasons that you don't need explaining. <ok>

Deleting is same as re-writing history.
European Court of Human Rights will have something to say about this.
I'm taking this to my MP, MEP and Ehab.

A couple of good-uns on tonight...two episodes of "Timeshift":
10 p.m. Bridging the gap: How the Severn Bridge was Built.
(similar to the Humber Bridge build I suspect)
11 p.m. Sailors, Ships & Stevedores: The Story of British Docks.
Should be of interest to Hull born.

    Worth a look.
In the latter there's a reference to "Boys From the Blackstuff". One of the best TV series I've ever seen.
One of the "talking heads" in the documentary is a Hull lad (Hull University).

Agree about BBC4, always worth checking whats on, could never understand the BBC pulling BBC3 when they run BBC2 & 4 so well.

Been watching it on the BBC I Player and enjoyed every minute, I knew about her song writing along with Gerry Goffin, and I also knew about James Taylor's involvement with many of Carole's songs, but I thought that some of the backing vocals were done by Carly Simon, who was married to James Taylor at one point. I was surprised to see that it wasn't Carly but Joni Mitchell, I've downloaded it and its available for the next 29 days to me, so I hope to watch it again before it expires. Both dennisboothstash and I went to Hull's New Theatre, not together, to see the show based on Carole Kings life through her songs, I think I can say that both dennis and I enjoyed the show, in my case I enjoyed it so much I went back the next night to see it again, Mrs Ref wasn't bothered. It's still the Lennon/McCartney mob for me as top of the pops, but Carole King is not far off.
