We need to know the average of other teams over the same period. No idea if that is a lot? To put into context he started in 1996, so 18 years. 5 Reds a season seems a lot?
I voted for "Cheating is in Arsenal's DNA". It's an overstatement, of course, but I do think there's a vaguely serious point: Wenger has got a streak of ill-discipline running through him. He gets angry, emotional, lies to himself ("I didn't see it"), and apparently can't accept or understand his own and his team's failings. I think some of this comes through in Arsenal's disciplinary record, which is in other ways surprising given the style of football they play (for which I think Wenger deserves plaudits)
Cheating ****s from the directors down to the players. The bird who polishes their silverware is the only honest one and that is only because she doesn't exist. DNA definitely.
When Wenger took over he had numerous clatter-happy players in the squad, notably Vieira, Wright and Parlour so they were naturally going to pick up cards at some rate, and it has to be said that Adams, Keown and Bould were all getting that bit slower with time so they would be at risk of making a late challenge against a pacy player. The excuses, however, run out when the players Wenger brought in were replicating this form: Petit and Grimandi were good for a couple of reds per season early in Wenger's tenure, Song and Sagna more recently. Whilst excuses can be made that defensive players pick up cards, a trend that still exists with Vermaelen, Koscielny and Mertesacker picking up at least one suspension per season, it's harder to make any kind of defence for players like van Persie or Wilshere regularly picking up cards, or the likes of Fabregas, Gervinho or Arteta for that matter. That's all on Wenger.
Hear! Hear! Too often, excellent threads such as this are used as an excuse for a wumfest, when it's serious debate that is being demanded. In response to the poll, I've gone for the first option - cheating is in the Gunners' DNA. They - and I include Whinger in this - cannot help themselves. If they see a way of winning by cheating, they will take it, Whinger will say he didn't see anything wrong, and the Gooners will celebrate as though they have won with dignity. Utterly shameful.
You do realise wenger has won more English league titles than your club in its entire history. That must really hurt.
