Yet another horrifically exaggerated dive by Ashley Young!

All teams have players who go down a little easier but why did our players (Pires, Eduardo) get such abuse from fans and the media yet Ashley Young gets barely any comment or criticism!!!

IMHO his diving is worse than anything our players have ever done and its creating an unfair advantage to United in the points its gaining them. It's needs to be cut hes a talented player and shouldn't be resorting to such tactics. The refs need to start booking him or sending him off to cut it out

He may not be crucified but Hutton just tried to make him puke up his nuts! I think England internationals are defended in the diving stakes....look st Gerrard, Owen, Rooney etc

Exactly - the press would have to start vilifying him and Sir Alex will not like that......

Another very poor decision from the officials. I was a little sympathetic with the referee on the Derry one, offside apart, because it was an arm push, albeit slight. The one today was dreadful. Ashley Young was stretching for it to an almost ludicrous extent.

It really does defy belief that the referee could be fooled by it.

even an arm push does not consitute a penalty. football is a contact sport. i play at a very low level, and there is a LOT more contact, yet far fewer free kicks. the top game is becoming too wimpy

Contact is one thing. The key points were that a push is deliberate, and that it was not a "loose ball" situation. Fending off is one thing, but that wasn't true in that case, Derry reached for him. I'm still not sure I would have given it myself, because as you say, it wasn't a lot, but it was a deliberate push on a man that had established possession of the ball.

Contact is not the issue. If you have 2 people knocking the crap out of each other and neither has established possession, then you can let them have at it, as long as no one is in danger of getting injured.

Also remember, we play by the FIFA rules. You may not agree with them and you may want to play a different game, but the rules say a push is a foul, no matter how hard it is.

  10. LOL - just watched the penalty incident <laugh>.. and some people say there is no cheating in football <laugh> . This year and last has been perhaps the most blatant in the last decade - mainly because the Utd teams are not that good and need more help.

They'd win the league with a local pub team basically.

If you are talking about the one today, I have to say I agree with you, it was a dreadful decision. So difficult to believe that the referee was fooled. It wasn't even a good dive! Eduardo we were replaying it in slow motion and people were still arguing about it. I'd be interested to see a United fan try to justify it because after the stick sonme of the United fans gave Eduardo, I just can't see how they can honestly stand by their player on this one.

crucified? that's taking it a bit far! I do think he should be red-carded for 'simulation' though.

  13. Once in a high profile game affecting the title, just punish him with a red and a 3 game ban. Twice in quick succession and there needs to be some kind of example made of him. Crucifixion is a bit much lo, but a season long ban and exclusion from the England squad would be acceptable.

Still people think there isnt corruption in the premier league? Don't make me laugh.

Eduardo got a 3 game ban for 1 dive. Young will get a premier league trophy for 2. Tainted titles.

Eduardo got banned by UEFA. I do not think the premier league or FA have ever banned anyone for diving. Also, the ban by UEFA was overturned after we made them look stupid.

  17. Tainted title is right - but think about it - it's perfect if we cant win it. City get nothing despite nearly £1bn in spending. Utd get a truly worthless title that no one will care about because they have quite clearly been handed it in the last month.

  18. What's most funny about all of this (funny because all you can do now is laugh it happens so often) is that the media quickly brush it under the carpet and move on.

I dread to think what would happen if an Arsenal player had done what Young has done over the past fortnight. He'd be hounded out of football.

don't think u can give extra bans to players after the game for diving, because if the ref sees it its only a yellow card. thus you would really be punishing the player for a refereeing mistake. i think they need to change the rule so that a dive constitutes a red card, then if the ref misses it u can justify banning them.
