Co Durham team tradition folowing my father he was a Sunderland supporter it's in the blood and you can't let go
It's either in your veins or it's brainwashing thus deliberately cursing your offspring to years of misery.
Raised in NE32 but about 90% of my family are Sunderland, was took to a game by my Granda when I was 5 and once you have been to a game, that's it, you fall in love and that's your team until the day you die.
That's fair though, NE8, 29,30,31 & 32 have always been mixed. Shields was nearly all Sunderland when I was a kid, seems 60/40 Mag now!
Grew up I'm southwick from birth, parents now in grangetwon and I've got a house in seaham although strangely I didn't really take an active interest in supporting Sunderland until I left for uni. Dunno if that's because my dad was one of those who supported Sunderland, Newcastle and boro
You being a kid roughly around 1992, maybe just before........ You are right though, Newcastle fans just edge it down Shields at the moment.
Aye. Sky & the 'Toon Army', a phrase the media coined & them up the road took hold of. What ****ed me off was that lads aged 12+ switched teams, the ones I'm still in contact with I remind of this every time they talk football. I do know a couple of proper Geordies, a lad from Whickham, and one born & raised in Gosforth, that are every bit as red & white as me, season cards, tattoo's the lot, so there are exceptions!
