Why do some people have to use silly names for our players.

A bloke behind me at the MLC game kept shouting out "go go Jay Rod" and called Morgan "Spiderman". Now Nigel has callled Ward-Prowse "Prowsie" and it really annoys me as this is what little children do when they can't say a name properly and it sounds very silly when grown men speak like it.

As we are all grown up on this website can we please call players by their first name or surname (or both) and not silly playground names.

I will now get back into bed and then get out on the right side.

I did used to read your story's and chuckle especially with your references to Mrs Godders and her obsession with Morgan (see how I first named here there) but of late I must say your turning into a bit of a moaner....it may seem (child like) but things like nicknames and abbreviations take a slightly formal unfamiliar edge off things on the training ground/pitch and helps everyone bond and feel a part of team, plus it's a bit of fun....cheer up Godders!!!

All of this rain gets to my arthritis and it isn't much fun. I desperately need some sun to cheer me up. At the moment I feel I have a definite lack of ultra violet radiation.

I will try and be more cheerful but I am not promising anything.

I don't like when managers refer to players by nicknames. I always used to wince when McClaren used to say Stevie Gee or JT.

I would imagine there is a serious lack of familiarity going round pompeys training base at the mo...nobody knows who anyone is. Maybe a few nicknames will help down there too....sorry couldn't resist ;-p

Show's lack of respect both ways. MClaren, when coach under Sven probably had a relationship with the players that enabled him to use the nick names. When he stepped up he was supposed to be the manager and as such the relationship should change. I don't think Ferguson calls Rooney Wazza, its Wayne. It is the same with Di Matteo at Chelsea, the players call him Robbie in interviews which again doesn't show the rigt sort of respect between manager and employee.

Strewth St G .......Whats up with you.............Nick names have been the past time of most since way before you or I were borne....and you know how long ago that was!!!! My mother gave me one when I was borne and is still used today. My friends from Pompey have known me by it all my life. There is nothing childish in it at all...it is commonly an affection....meaning a friend nothing more. I have a nickname for all my children as they do for theirs. My old school friends who sadly are diminishing quite rapidly now, mostly have nicknames, not all true. They happily use them with each other and do not consider them to be childish (incidentally 2 of them have the George medal). So somehow I think if they thought they were childish they wouldn't use them. Nah mate your way off beam there "me old flower".

Ha, well David Norris is called Chuck Norris, for obvious reasons. When introducing himself to our new trialists he screamed "I am Chuck ****ing Norris!" (probably no-one will get this reference....) but I can't imagine Appleton is one for using nicknames!

Listen to TMS for a plethora of nicknames "Tuffers", "Aggers,"Blowers," "Johnners," "The Boil." Did they conjure one up for John Arlott?

I don't say "Spiderman". It's the same amount of syllables - what's the point? "Jay Rod" is cool though.

Spiderman is for people who can't say Schneiderlin. If I'm talking about him I'll tend to say Morgan, anyway.

Yeah you lot are right and I need to lighten up and lower my standards.

For your benefit I thought you might like to know that her in doors laps up that Morgs bloke while I am admirer of Big Kelv and Jay Rod and have high hopes for Prowsie. The Big Brazilian is ace and Lambo is going to tear up the PL. Corksie is another favourite of mine and he plays well with Sharpie and the Jap Chap. The Don has made som fab signings and the Nat is going to be gr8 for us. My fav player has to be the happy Chappie and I also like Steeeeeeeeeeve who is really cool. Then again I like Foxie too. Some people don't think Deano is going to cope this season but he is going to prove people wrong as is Jose Fonte Baby. There are some other players such as Lallana and Hooiveld but with stupid names like that I don't like to talk about them. It seems really stupid to refer to people by their given names.

Goodness. Did I really write that gibberish?
