Not realise that you cannot be offside from a goal-kick?! The two planks I was stood next to last night moaned for about 5 minutes that Kevin Doyle was 'miles off' after a goal-kick, until I pointed out that it was in fact them, not the officials, who were utter ****witts.
I've long accepted the truth of that fact, sir, it's just that sometimes people plunge new depths and I find myself questioning just how low they're capable of going
Eric,if that's as bad as it gets where you sit,you is a very lucky boy. Right behind me sit a father and son combo, who give a completely incorrect correct commentary,of every second of every min... i'm not even going to finish,i'm getting wound up just thinking about them !
I may be the only one or the only one to admit it but I did not know that... and I've been watching football for 18 years... It's a ******ed rule though, does not make sense to me at all because if the a striker fouls a defender on the corner line and the keeper kicks the free kick from the same spot he would take a goal kick, then the offside rule would then apply.
I remember being taught this playing for a small-sided team when I was about 8. It amazes me that so many experienced fans don't know it.
Same sort of thing happened on Tuesday night next to me the guy moaned that one of Wolves forwards was "blatantly offside" from a throw-in!!
I think the modern football fan is swamped with too much information and has started to think they have a clue and a say about what's going on. Pre KC, quite a decent precentage of fans never really watched the game to any great depth, it was only a small part of what the day out was about. There was far more fun to be had chatting with mates, getting pissed and letting off steam. I feel sorry for the fans that missed all that. If my early days of football had been the same as todays experience, I'd have stopped going years ago.
It's not difficult. The poll is letting people vote for more than one option, and is telling you what % of people voted for each option, not what % of the votes each option has received.
Remember Schmeichel doing it last season for Gallacher i think. Never mind thick fans, Hobbs and Chezzy were sticking their arms up!!
Yeah, you can't be offside from a corner as well, but it's kind of hard to be offside from a corner. The only set-piece that you can be called offside from is a free kick.
You can't be offside directly from a corner. A corner is considered as being taken from on the goal line and therefore everybody on the attacking team is behind the ball.
Just googled and I now see you're right. Apologies TIGERHULL. I'm really surprised by that, I was convinced it was only goal kicks and throw-ins.
Penalties as well, although that's due to the penalty rules rather than being part of the offside rule.
What rules are they? Since you can pass from a penalty and a penalty is just a free kick in the box, why couldn't you be offside from one? Surely someone can stand to the right or left of the area but forward of the spot if they wanted to?
No. Every player (bar the goalkeeper and the taker) has to be behind the ball or they're guilty of encroachment.
Huh. I always thought 'behind the ball' was a playground rule in the absence of marked penalty areas and Ds.
