Why are Arsenal so negative in big games? They always start so slowly. Whereas Chelsea, a side perceived to park the bus, started aggressively v Liverpool, United and City recently. Arsenal started so slowly again v United. Must be a mental thing coming from Wenger. Were they scared to lose?
Because they are flat track bullies and bottle it against decent opponents. That's what happens when you go 8 years 8 months 22 days without a trophy. please log in to view this image
We didn't park the bus, we were just insipid going forward. Not sure how you can park the bus with 57% possession. But you are right in most of your points. It's been so long since Wenger won anything that he doesn't know how to tactically 'win' these games anymore. I was watching last night and had a thought that maybe Wenger tells them just to keep the ball for 60 minutes to try and tire out the opponents chasing them... and then attack hard in the final half hour against tired opposition. Might explain our slow start to almost all matches. Might also explain why it backfires against opponents who are actually good at chasing us down and getting the ball back straight away.
Arsenal still only 1 point off but teams with aspirations of winning the title should really be beating United at home yesterday, especially given the low confidence in the United team. I'm genuinely more worried about Liverpool now cos they can win the bigger games as well as the smaller ones.
Arsenal play arguably the best football in the League, but lack power. Wilshire is a gem and would be even better if partnered by someone like Yaya Toure or a Vierra type player. Then again, who wouldn't. A couple of well thought out buys will see Arsenal very much improved. Can Wenger do it?? History says no.
Let's hope they are still in the mix when they play us. Arsenal play much better when the pressure is off, like Bayern away, and the fat lady has sung. Then they relax and play their natural game.
And every time they play UTD, UTD stop them from playing. They have a mental block, just like UTD seem to have against your lot.
Would love this to be a draw and then LFC to win. Get tied up with a big cup derby and lose focus. I don't want them getting 4th.
Arsenal attacked well in first 20 but were negative in the second half, never looked like knicking one on the counter, like chelsea did v Barca when we had 10 men.... Away from home too
