Panic. Last day of the transfer window and we had no fit strikers. We had sold Scotland while both Pintado and Dobbie had injuries that put them out for a few weeks. If you remember we also made bids for half a dozen other strikers that day including Bayo and Trundle (who we also got on loan).
Apart from the injury factor I don't really have a problem with Beattie. Whenever I've seen him he always tries to put in a shift (more than Moore does) and tbh I reckon he could play in a role in front of strikers cos he's pretty strong on the ball and can hold it up well. He's scored a couple of crackers too.
People seem to forget about Beattie, but He's been a super sub for us this season, his goals against Middlesbrough and Ipswich really helped us!
Championship player at best.Agree does work hard but no pace and injury prone get rid of him and moore
While I do have my doubts about his ability to stay fit for the season, as Jamie has pointed out (and I have previously), his goals won us points last season without which we may not have been promoted. I think that there are a lot worse players plying their trade at Championship level, but in the Premiership? I think if we got a decent offer we'd need to consider it, but he's another play who I think could do a job off the bench for us in the Premiership.
Why did they buy Beattie?? Because the board did not read what the 606ers from West Brom were telling us about him all along
2 crucial goals in 46 matches don't mean much in the long term (not that he played more than 10 i think)
Started 21 games & scored 7 non penalty goals with the team . At that rate , he would score 15 in a season ... Know what I mean !!
glad he didnt score fifteen or i would not have won the season ticket from sea besian that i will never see
Problem is, Nobody in their right minds would make an offer. Who knows, maybe he'll tear the Reserves League apart, and Brendan gives him a chance and all will be well. There's always hope
Ah I don't know man, there's quite a few "lower Championship" teams who he'd probably excel for, and where he'd be guaranteed to be no1 striker, surely? I'm not saying we'd get loads of money for him, but if we could recoup something for him that'd be ideal. Like I say though, I think as a squad player in the Premiership he can do a job. There are a lot of mediocre strikers sitting on the bench in the Premiership!
