We gave away 2 poor goals again and both from set pieces! Yes it was only a friendly but the fact remains that we still can't defend set pieces and if this isn't sorted out and soon we will find ourselves struggling next season. A lack of any serious investment in quality players and a patch and mend approach just simply wont do! I know all the Jewell lovers will be jumping all over this but at the end of the day another woeful and inept performance against a club 3 leagues lower than us does not bode well. Ainsley tried hard but was poor, our distribution was woeful and we seem to have reverted to humping it up the pitch hoping that Chopra will get on the end of it!

Very poor and if we don't tighten up our shoddy defence we are screwed!

JWM who is a Jewell lover here??

I thought you were fairly pleased with our signings so far? Are you know saying it is now a patch and mend approach? I loose where you are at week to week!!!

We certainly have a problem with set pieces atm, I think the main problem is lack of height. We have very very few tall players or good headerers of the ball!! Whilst Smith and Chambers are both decent in the air, they're quite small for CB's, they'll probably beat most strikers in the air but when it comes to set pieces when the oppositions CB's come up or when they come up against a very tall striker we could be in trouble. With a bit of know how and movement Delaney gets caught out too often for someone of his height he should really win more in the air!! I think we need to get a tall striker or someone like Murphy plus an experienced dominant CB as a minimum, if Delaney can get anywhere near the team we haven't strengthened well enough!

What annoyed me most about this is jewell moaning about the same old problems....well why then does he not do more to sort it out. Sign another CB, I think we are universal in the need for another CB to come in this summer, then make sure part of training is defending set pieces, stop moaning about it jewell & sort it out.

It might also be an idea to get clegg back from swanning around the Olympic Park & help out........On second thoughts..

Im loving this translation of posts PTC? Lancy - very amusing.
JWM again very amusing - things are never average with you are they - its always 100% either way but I love the passion behind it. I do find myself agreeing with PTC when he asks about your constant use of the phrase Jewell lover though as im not sure there is any justification behind it.
I havent seen the goals or know anything about them so cant help on specifics but with a new keeper and a new and untested back 4 then it was always likely to cause short term failings and hopefully it will be addressed during the coming days in training. The idea of preseason friendlies is to build up fitness and let your new signings gel. Its better to find out our short comings now then on the first game of the season

I remember Magilton moaning about set piece defending and we seem to have been doing it ever since.

I’d suggest a coaching manual but perhaps we don’t run to those anymore – I’m sure PJ and co will complain that their valuations are miles apart from Waterstones.

Maybe if some championship rivals had some cast off coaching manuals they on longer want or need we could pick up one or two.

You know things are desperate when we can't or won't shell out an extra £250K for a decent striker who wants to come here! So ****ed off with this!
