    No I am not asking for a love in but as the two most successful clubs on the South Coast it would be nice if we could manage to both be at the top table more often. When one of our clubs is up the other always seems to drop down. Surely as the two biggest clubs in our area we should be capable of sustaining both teams.

    I remember as a boy in the far distant past when many would go to watch both teams depending whether their favoured side was at home or not. Of course football was not as commercial back then but a similar way of doing things would surely help us both out. Less hatred and more money flowing through the tills.

    We are still debating whether we need or can fill a larger ground and yours needs major rebuilding. Both clubs could with a more permanent set of fixtures where we play each other as that would possibly lead to less friction when we do meet.

    Anyway this is the time of goodwill to all men, women included. Here's hoping we all have a better 2013 than any year previously had.

    <applause>

    Life's too short.

    I'm all for friendly banter between rival football fans but I've never understood the hatred and bile that comes from some sections on both sides.

    I'm too young to be of the generation that went to see both sides, but I remember my Grand-dad. When he was ashore [in his Navy days] he would go to Fratton Park or The Dell, depending on who was at home that Saturday.

    Things are nowhere near as bad as they were in the late 70s and early 80s, as far as 'aggro' is concerned, but it always seems to raise its ugly head when our two sides meet.

    As you say, when one side is doing well, the other always seems to be on a downward trend. Maybe if the derbies had been more frequent, the hateful few would have learned to live with their neighbours.

    Happy New Year to all Pompey and Saints not606ers <ok>

    Like you I love the banter until it gets beyond the pale. Sadly with the present situation we won't be able to have normal pre and post match banter with you for a while. Unless we meet in a cup game of course when I for one will be hoping for some revenge.
