Discussion in 'Formula 1' started by Delete Me, Jul 10, 2011.

Team orders today? Why so angry?

  1. Don't want another Schumi era

  2. Red Bull lied to us

  3. We want a WDC fight

  4. Sebastian already has a massive lead

  5. I hate team orders outright

  6. No problem

  7. Other issue...

This isn't meant to be a provocative poll to wind up anyone, but to give views on the main cause why you are angry with the team order used today.

I believe people are more angry in the direction of : Webber is being disallowed to close the gap on Vettel and give us a real WDC fight with Alonso.

And not just plain "team orders" being used.

I'm going to put down a few selections, you can choose "other" and put your reasons down. Multiple selection will be allowed on this poll...

Take deep breaths and vent out slowly... Thank you :) <peacedove>

Other issue is that I do not believe that Red Bull would of used team orders if the drivers were the other way around.

If this was the case I'd be disgusted. I don't mind driver's being manipulated to boost the team's constructor points, but I don't like the team's interfering with the WDC points. I'm prepared to give RBR the benefit of the doubt, I know many won't but everyone has a different view.

Webber has been weak so far this season compared to last. If he had beaten Vettel today, it would have spurred him to mount a challenge and he's the only other driver with THAT car. Red Bull do not want Webber performing at his best because he could still pose a credible threat to Vettel.

My problems with Red Bull today was , They came in as this laid back team, a breath of fresh air who let their drivers race freely, as long as they kept it civil.

    Horner after Germany 2010
I know things have changed, Its not illegal to do this, but still an air of against the sport about it. He says its wrong for the sport.

Problem today IMO, was that Vettel has a nice little lead, so there wouldnt have been much harm in letting Webber go for it, instead of winding up even further. I think Red Bull want to keep Webber's momentum down and low.

As raised earlier, Vettel in 3rd Webber ahead what happens if Vettel gets on the radio, well thats my opinion.

If they'd collided Webber would've slipped from 2nd to 5th in the WDC and they'd have lost a stack of Constructor points.

We won't know unless a situation arises where the boot is on the other foot. It would've been interesting if Lewis was still quick and Seb was backing Mark into him...

They may have shot themselves in the foot here. When scorned by his team in the past, Webber has come back and delivered his strongest performances.

I find the crashing argument a bit weak: Vettel should be mature enough now to see that Webber was flying and 15 points are better than none. He too should consider the team position. But I think his position is the same as Horner's: he doesn't want Mark getting back into form.

There are 11 races to go. Way to early to use Team Orders.

    Some excellent points there.

What I'd like to know is why Horner (and apparently lots of people on here) just assume that it was going to end in a crash? Perhaps because of Turkey I imagine but that was only one time. Plus, I think both of them have learned from that little episode and wouldn't want to have to face Horner and Marko after doing it again. Both drivers want to finish and I don't think both drivers are stupid enough to crash again.

I suppose the fact that it was around this time last year that Alonso started making a comeback was probably in the back of Horner's mind as well.

Team orders should never be used in the individual championship. The WDC is for a single driver to win, not a team. The team event is the WCC, if they want one driver to back up a rival into a team member then fine, otherwise fixing positions simply grants points for the WDC to an individual that he hasn't earnt by their own merit.

As PMC it is too early for team orders, also as has been pointed out on another thread, Vettel clearly still had the use of his KERS, so I feel that they should have been allowed to race and the drivers sensible enough not to touch

If F1 is a Team Sport as is so oft repeated, why do we have a WDC?

How can it possibly be a team sport if you award individual drivers individual points?

Showed a distinct lack of faith in his drivers. I know neither of them have the best track record but they're still highly skilled drivers and the race craft from both of them has been top drawer all season.

Red Bull cant allow Alonso using team orders on Massa to catch up Sebastian over the season. Doesn't make sense not to, since you know Ferrari are really desperate to win now and they would do Germany at every grand prix if it meant Alonso won the WDC.

my problem is that it robs the viewers of real racing, but it's the logical thing to do in such situations

Mainly because they said something to the effect of, "We will never use TO, and they shouldnt be allowed". The hypocricy is the annoying thing.
