A while back we apparently offered 4.5 million for Fraser Foster which was just embarrassing and apparently we've had a 9.5 million bid rejected for Rojo, which is obviously too low. I understand the club want the get the "best deals" but for me the best deal is to bring the player in asap. We're obviously not going to pay way over the odds but for christ sake, we are being stingy as f**, and it's very frustrating. I'm worried that other teams will come in, put a couple extra million on the table and take the player. We've made over 90 million from players sales so why being so tight!?!?! SORT IT OUT LES REED AND GET YOUR FINGER OUT YOUR ARSE!
If you offer 5, they want 10. If you offer 10, they want 15. It's called negotiations. have some sympathy with the idea of going in strong, but there is a point where the player exceeds his value to us.
I'd prefer that we spend a little extra to get the squad settled, but whether it's a mistake ultimately comes down to whether we get the players in the end. If it goes the Newcastlian "we just couldn't get the deal over the line (because we offered 5m less than their valuation)", it's a big problem. If we eventually find an acceptable figure, it's less of one.
It's not about going in strong. It's about offering sensible amounts, at least close to what they are worth. I'm sure that if we were to offer something like 14 million for Rojo, we'd have the bid accepted or be very close. He's a world cup finalist, in the team of the tournament. Is he worth that amount. Yes. So why **** around with stupid amounts, wasting time. I'm not saying we go nuts and offer stupid amounts but let's be realistic.
You do realise the figures you're using are the first reported offers, and not the most recent ones? Obviously we're going to open with a lowball.
I've herd differently. I think this is like when we first went in for Foster, everyone was quoting 7 million, then it turned out to be 4.5. We will probably end up offering that amount but further down the line, when we realise there is no chance we are going to get him for less.
Even the sporting chairman has said 'a club' has made a couple of offers. We are well beyond the first low offer there.

It's about the price of a loaf of bread, right? That's how much I throw at my butler when I tell him to get me bread anyway.
Yes I understand that but the fact of the matter is that it seems that we don't want to pay a penny over what a player is "worth", which is ridiculous after selling 90 million pounds worth of players. We have the luxury to pay a little extra to bring players in now but we care way too much about getting the very best financial deal than having a squad ready for the start of the season.
If we pay over the odds, then we end up just enough to replace what we lost. We get good deals, and we are able to bring in more. This is not rocket surgery.
