I'm getting sick and tired of this slow build up **** that we've been playing for a long time now. There were numerous times today when we had the opportunity to break but ended up passing it across and back, allowing the opposition to get virtually all their players behind the ball. This is a pattern that is being repeated time and again and has probably been the pattern since the closing days of Laudrup. It's always a case of intricate passing and trying to feed the ball through the eye of a needle. That is so difficult at this level - we are not Arsenal. We have the players who are quick enough to cause problems and with the addition of Paloschi we have no excuse not to get the ball forward quickly - so why aren't we? This is a team sorely lacking in creativity but that's partly down to the pace of play in attack. Paloschi had bugger all to feed off today and did well with what he was given. Barrow is the main man creating chances in my view. He got back and defended when needed but caused all sorts of problems going forward - trouble was he usually had three or four to get past because we were too slow getting it forward to him. Very frustrating, but is this the real problem or is there another reason we're scoring so few goals?
Couldn't agree more! Teams know how to play us, Everton are suffering the same as we are and they at least have the ability more often than not and big physical players. This should be our tactics IMO Starting line-up Fabianski Naughton, Fernández, Ash, Taylor Britts, Cork Ayew, Siggy, barrow Paloschi Play our usual system but if/when the opposition starts pegging us back ( which they do) be proactive straight away and sub Montero > ayew or Siggy depending on form Counter attack!!! With pace once players are committed forward. Ask questions on both flanks, Paloschi has the ability to hold up the ball something that gomissing hasn't Fabianski Naughton, Fernández, Ash, Taylor Britts, Cork Barrow, Siggy, montero Paloschi That's the way I see it anyway
Maybe we play it out from the back on the deck because we have so many short arses ? and hoof ball doesnt suit our squad. We do seem to have the players now to play fast attacking footy, but when we cant cross or get it to the striker enough its going to continue being a problem, and our defence of set pieces has been terrible for way to long now plus not being able to grind out the last part of games without blowing it is annoying. but on the whole we`re little old swansea and doing ok sort of.
As I posted on he matchday thread I did not see the game today,I did manage to see he Man City v Leicester game.A game with crisp ,fluent passing.A game played with speed.Very very enjoyable. All the things our games lack. In a word,as much as I am Swans through and through,we are......Boring. Slow, slow back slow forward slow sideways slow. So frustrating.
Fab hoofed the ball a few times today. We miss fast wingers who can cross the ball accurately. Ayew was my MOM today...
Agreed, 55. The days when we lit up the Prem seem so long ago. Nobody wants hoofball if you're a true Swans fan. But a team can still be quick to attack and fluid going forward without that. As you say, just look at Leicester. I'm not having a go at Guidolin here because this has been a trend for the last couple of seasons. In my view it's so frustrating because we do have the players to play the way we used to, and probably execute it better than ever.
Britton/Siggy joint men of the match for me. Ayew worked hard but slowed the game down at times. Disappointed with fullback for fullback change with a short time to go when someone like Fer might have bolstered the attack.
For me, Ayew is an enigma. Yes, he has goals in him and he displays commitment & enthusiasm. However, we don't play with pace and fluency when he is involved in a movement. If Siggy were injured, I'd be tempted to play Ayew behind Paloschi, and play 2 wide men.
I agree Taff. As much as I like Ayew he often slows the play down, though he makes up for it in other ways I guess. I can only think the like for like was because Rangel was buggered. He played much better today I thought.
I'd like to see this formation at some point during a game ---------------------Fab------------------ Rangel------Ash-------Fed--------Taylor/Naughton Barrow-------Gylfi----------Leon/Cork/Ki---------Monty/Routs ----------------------Ayew----------------------- ----------------------Palo-------------------
Another would be --------------------------Fab----------------------- ------------Fed-------------Ash-------------Amat -------------------Leon------------Cork---------- Barrow/Routs--------Ki---------Gylfi-----------Monty/Ayew -------------------------Palo----------------- For me, that would give us much needed flair on the flanks, the creativity of Ki and Gylfi in the middle with the protection of Leon and Cork sitting just in front of the defence. Amat would also give us a needed height and physical presence defending set pieces etc.
The football we play is good, It's the finishing and corner kicks that need improving. We have dropped so many points this season because of it. We will see how its done when we play the saints as we will have to be on form at the back if we are going to get anything off them.....
Palace down their left side and our right in the first half were as bad as any side I have see at the Liberty, if we had Barrow on in the first half it would have destroyed them, we still troubled them even though we had no pace out wide between Cork and rangel, but yet again the ball into the box was just so poor and most of the time didn't beat the first man. Pardew obviously picked up on their issues down the left and made the change at half time. We do need some pace out wide, but we have to work on delivery into the box. As for Ayew being man of the match, not even close totally anonymous in the first half and seemed to be playing to deep and making no effort to get in the box. but had a much better second. Britton was yet again MOM for me and by a mile, still at his age looks the fittest player on the pitch and just simply doesn't stop.
Spot on about Ayew. As much as he contributes in many ways, and I think he has played reasonably well in the last two matches, he has imbalanced the team since the start of the season. At one point yesterday Taylor was on his own out on the left trying to beat two players, while Ayew was standing in front of Paloschi on the edge of the six yard box.
We should have started yesterday with Montero and Barrow on the wings. Palace hadn't got a point this year and were also short of attacking players. We should have battered them from the off. I'd have played Monty in place of Ayew yesterday. Give the ball to Monty or Barrow, let them run at the defence, first chance whip a ball in and let's see what Paloschi can do. Yesterday when Rangel went forward he was in acres of space but the ball was either very slow going into the box, if it went in at all, or it was a poor cross. If the ball is played early and not lofted way up in the air then we'll have a chance to create something. The early ball is usually the best ball - played with pace!
Spot on Daimun, though in fairness a few of Rangels crosses were decent but nobody got near them. Neither Monty nor Barrow have had enough game time and that indicates to me the Coach is far too timid. I hope I'm wrong. He's almost got it right but we need to do much more if we are going to score the goals needed to get us out of this mess. Both players are more than capable of creating chances but they are either on for too little time or absent completely. Something has to change.
