Why is our game against Everton on Monday when we have to go to Portugal on Thursday? It would make more sense to play on the Saturday?

I don't beleive the club has the option to decline.

Also, so far as I am aware, Ashley has yet to take any money of any kind out of the club

Not counting the millions of free advertising he's getting?

Its weird though because there's only one game on Sunday so we could just play then and make up the other Super Sunday game and we'd still get the TV game.

    No, just talking about money.

As far as I'm aware (which is as of the last published figures) he had advanced about £30m, which together with the original debt at the tiem fo takeover of about £120m, was being treated as an interest free loan.

The forgoing of interest is worth about £5m per year, so its debaable whether you can call the advertising "Free".

He's not my favourite person either but I do find the suggestion that he is making some huge profit out of the club a bit of a pain. It's not true and it's boring.

A business man like Mike will most definitely be making a huge profit somewhere, sooner or later. I don't believe he's enjoying watching the football that much. Whether that's setting it up internally to maximise profit at point of sale (which nobody would complain about at all), or whether he's syphoning off money from transfers (I'm sure we're still in the positive via sales minus incoming, which is not entirely palatable, but would be more so if he was upfront about it) and profitability as a whole, which is another option I'd be fine about, so long as we see a significant budget poured back into the team each year. Unfortunately (depending on how you look at it), nobody here is privy to the accounts and those in the know keep silent about it, but I suspect Ashley will make a lot of money in the long run if we keep up last season's form.

He's certainly pushing the boundaries of marketability at the moment, but I think he should have attempted boosting overseas awareness, rather than selling off the history of the club. However, that's from a selfish fan point of view, not a fiscally responsible and research designed one.

it would be nice if the business plan was available to all, because we're not stupid and would respect clear strategy, but that would perhaps be counter-productive to some of the aims. Nothing like free advertising, and doing something to aggravate the Geordies lumping mattresses near St James' while there are some cameras there is certainly going to make the news <doh>

The loan may not be yielding interest, but he'd make that much and more out of the future sale, if he hasn't made all that and more by then anyway. As long as the team is doing ok, everything is fine. If we start getting beat more often, he'll get questioned on these matters more and more.

Also, the fact we have a game on the monday represents to me a joke, and what's more, a joke that makes the dead-baby variety look like distinctly tasteful, upper-class dining, escargo amuse-bouche worthy accompaniment banter...

I still believe that the odd kick-off times and days were a determining factor in our relegation, almost as much as the playing staff ability and management debacle. Seriously, the season we came up they made a point of mentioning how long we'd been without a win on a traditional 3pm Saturday kick-off... Well that's because we didn't have one for ages! It's very disruptive when you don't have the squad of Man City or Man Utd to cope, and there's no need for it at all. Given our fixture list, it's like a handicap. Mercifully they postponed the Norwich game... from Saturday to Sunday... Wow.

Still, I guess this means we must be a really big club to draw so much viewership that they had to put us on a monday <whistle>

It's hard on travelling supporters having a non weekend game, especially if your working week is Monday to Friday, it can mean having to use holidays to attend games played through the week!
