Rodgers says there'll be no big money spent in january and there'll be no significant changes until next summer. http://www1.skysports.com/football/...to-spend-big-money-in-January-transfer-window Werner says, "Our intention is to strengthen but actions will speak louder than words," Werner said. "We are playing better and better each week. Obviously, we have made some mistakes in the past but our intention is to deliver, strengthen the squad and move forward."We know that January is a challenging time and I don't want to say we've got x or y but, hopefully, the fans will be pleased with what we do accomplish." http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/s...verpool-to-keep-suarez,-add-to-squad?cc=5739# Rodgers is happy with our progress and can see improvement 'all the time', improvement in passing the ball is one thing thing but scoring goals wins games.WE NEED ANOTHER STRIKER!
I think Rodgers is jsut being shrewd. If he says "oh we've millions to splash" then clubs will up their asking price. I like how we are now, our frugality in some ways means clubs will no longer take the piss, same with players. As we have shown with Dempsey we are willing to walk away if it doesn't suit us, and same with Sigurdson.
It's not uncommon to play down your activity during the window. Werner needed to appease the fans so it's understandable what he said but Rodgers is never going to come out and say they're going to spend big - it raises fans expectations, clubs will start asking for more money and most importantly players would be playing for the next month or so wondering if they're going to be replaced.
Suppose it comes down to what is meant by big money. If we can offload Carroll then the amount available will change.
I'm still hoping that we will get a 20/25 million attacking signing. I would also be pleased if we could shift Cole and Downing off the wage bill, we really do not need them and offer nothing that a youngster couldn't give
I think it's more likely you'll be trying to sign someone like Llorente or Huntelaar who should be available at a reasonable price and then putting the "big money" into the wages to get them to sign.
Damiao would be amazing as well but just can't see it. Think we will end up with Sturridge on loan or something.
I will be ABSOLUTELY AMAZED if LFC spend more than £10m net in Jan FSG wont, havnt and dont want to spend ANY cash, they want a " Wenger" as manager someone who will get CL every year without spending money LIVERPOOL WILL NEVER WIN LEAGUE UNDER FSG The ONLY good thing is I expect they are preparing the club for sale
Llorente, more chance of FSG signing you ( no disrespect) than Llorente, they wont spend cash!!! LFC front 3 in Feb LuvGonzo Suarez Sterling
What this club and what the club will get are two very different things. We need a goalscoring forward who can lead the line - someone who's a natural finisher. We also need another wide forward option so Sterling doesn't have to play every game and risk burning out long term. What we'll get is another cheapo option (not necessarily bad if the scouting is up to scratch) squad player and a player in on loan. This is assuming we can lessen the wage bill. If Carroll is sold, I'd expect the money to be reinvested though. Net spend will be less than 10million again. FSG are not here to spend big, they want us to buy from what we make in sales.
But will ask for a fortune in wages, especially Huntelaar. I think we are more likely to spend more on someone younger without the wage expectations
Jesus I'd rather have Downing Agree about the cash situation though. I think he'll get whatever he can sell Mandy for (and others). So basically we won't have a lot.
FSG might get away with a small spend in january but if in the summer they don't splash the cash they might find themselves in a H&G situation with the supporters, their net spend so far has been piss poor and they've banked bigtime from sponsorship and partnership deals. No doubt some of the money made off the back of LFC has been used to prop up the Red Sox, better to have an owner/owners that focus totally on one sporting institution.
Well that cheered me up thanks S&M...then I read Bluffs post about Sturridge or Bent....on loan depressed again now
