Now that we are giving our youth a chance who is the next Cousins, Poyet, Lennon, Fox or the Harriott boys? Pope - must be our No. 2 goalkeep next season Gomez - get him on pro terms and then set him free at Centre Half Azeez - can do a job on the right wing Sho-Silva - needs to be out on loan next season so perhaps a bit soon Muldoon - not sure he is a right back but can sit beside Poyet and spray balls around Holmes-Dennis - can play Left Back or Left Mid so could work in a rota system with Fox and the Harriott boys There are still options available. Pope seems to be making a name for himself at York, I'd be quite happy with him as no.2, might even end the season as no.1. Gomez will start the season in the U-21's, hopefully get on the bench before too long. Actually I was impressed by the progress made by his fellow CB Terrell Thomas, not having seen him for a while. Could be a late developer. Holmes-Dennis is ready to be gradually introduced next season. But the jewel in the crown for me is Archie Edwardes. Looked a great full-back when I last saw him, now even better in midfield. Needs to fill out a bit then watch him go.
How's Sho-Silva been doing recently? A couple of seasons back, when the youth made it to Old Trafford, he seemed to score every week. You don't see him getting on the scoresheet as much - is he not progressing as hoped, or moulding in to more of a target man?
He is playing most matches, last saturday he was subbed off after 88 mins, he is more of a creator for them with his pace
The only real time I have spent watching the youngsters was at their pre season friendly with Maidstone United. Muldoon didnt really look up to it for me, despite him scoring a couple of goals there was a lot of mis-placed passes, Sho-Silva looked dangerous and explosive with his pace but lacked a bit of intelligence. The one that really impressed both me and my impartial friend who came with me was.......Poyet. I didnt think much of Harry Lennon that day either, shows what I know! What has happened to Bradley Jordan? Seems to have vanished off the face of the earth since declaring in the summer his desire to push for a first team place this season, has he been injured? I saw he went on loan to Notts County and barely played.
Still 16 I think. He came on as sub in one of the U-21 games a few months ago but wasn't ready for the step up. Highly rated I'd say.
Still captain of the u21s and still plays most games. I think it has been obvious for a year or so that he is not developing at the same rate as some of his contemporaries. That wouldn't rule out him making a spurt, but he has failed to do so. People here were saying that he and Fox might not make the grade. They both went to Notts County. Fox started playing 90 minutes game after game. I think Jordan got 10 minutes at the end of one game and was never selected afterwards. I can see him moving on this summer.
Watching the highlights, the first goal was created by Poyet, Cousins and Astrid, and scored by the Harriotts, so that's 3 out of 4 from our own. I also noticed at the end that our own 4 Charlton products looked for each other for a joint hug. With this sort of spirit a team is going to be more than the sum of its parts. I hope that under Roland journeyman loanees won't be taking precedence over our own the way they have been for the last 5 or 6 years.
At the Fans Q&A pre season the management were quite open that very big things are expected of Nick Pope. Ben Roberts was also there that day.
This is mostly guess work in terms of their progression but if Bradley Jordan / Harry Osborne / Ade Azeez are out of Contract this summer then I could see them moving on... Maybe Kevin Feely as well in that respect seeing he seems to have fallen behind Harry Lennon in that respect whilst we've got Joe Gomez coming along quickly
I don't want to put pressure on the lad but.............. he could end up better than................ Rufus............ and no I have not been drinking.
If Carl Cort can get any sort of fitness I think it would help Joe if Cort could play a game or two in the U-21's alongside him. Cort seems the right man to help him progress.
Well wasnt far off with this comment... Joe Gomez captained the England U17s to a 2-0 victory over Holland yesterday. Archie Edwards and Aherne-Grant were both on the bench
