For the men, it's hard to see beyond either Nadal or Djokovic to be honest. The Serb is aiming to be the first man since Laver to hold all four major titles. The women's field is a lot more open. Serena Williams has hit a bit of form having won the Madrid Open. Victoria Azarenka is the top seed and Maria Sharapova will be confident of getting another major trophy to add to her collection. And don't write off returning champion Li Na. Should be an exciting competition and remember it's on ITV1 and ITV4.
Sorry guys I've been away for a few days and haven't heard anything regards the FO, Sterio - what has happened - is AM still in it??? Guess I will have to go look it up!
Mrs laLa...please keep up....AM played yesterday afternoon since you got back from your Big Smoke jaunt......you must know by now that he survived his 1st round. Nadal should beat Djokovic...who has only recently lost his father.....so will be tough for him to concentrate....assuming he gets to the final. Who can tell with the women.......Serena Williams had her worst grand-slam result for yonks......whoever is up for it on the day will succeed.
Andy breezed through the first set. He had a sticky second set as the Japanese found his rhythm and produced some cracking forehand smashes but Andy came through 7-5. Losing the 2nd set having played so well seemed to break Ito's spirit. The third set was a procession. Next up is Jarkko Nieminen.
Thanks for the update Sterio Plym, just because I got back from the smoke very late Monday doesn't mean I've seen or heard any news, we have had a guest in the house and you can't be rude so when I asked about AM I simply hadn't had time to check. Of course today I've been back at work and have heard about Serena Williams (who incidently has been on form until now) but I've still not heard anything about Andy Murray all day.
I turned the telly on as Andy's third set got under ways......what is it about ITV sport.......it became obvious that he was going to breeze thru it........the commentators waffled on about everything under the sun........it was difficult to follow the match........roll on Wimbledon with some decent BBC coverage.
Weird old game. Murray looked completely down and out during the first set losing it 6-1. His was suffering from back pain meaning he had the physio on three times. He could barely serve or even run. Everyone expected him to retire, including his own background team. He then battled back in the 2nd set taking it 6-4. His recovery seemed to spook Nieminen who's game went completely to pot after that. Murray took the next two sets 6-1, 6-2 as his opponent made a string of unforced errors. Next up is Santiago Giraldo who he beat 6-1, 6-2 in their only previous encounter. Whether he'll have recovered enough after today's exertions is a different matter.
1. Tennis is a different sport to football. 2. Man United have won the Premier League more times than anyone else. 3. I referenced three players not one. 4. **** off.
Well aren't you the charming one! Good thing I have my anti swearing device switched on eh? BTW if it's all so "tedious" to you why bother looking and posting here?
Run of the mill victory for Murray who hardly needed to get out of 2nd gear to overcome his opponent in three sets. A couple of grimaces when twisting but otherwise no back problems. Next up is Gasquet who beat him in their last encounter and should prove a much stiffer challenge than Giraldo.
Thanks Sterio, I saw the latter part of this match and didn't think Andy was playing particularly well but as you said he did enough. Gasquet will be a different matter though.
