I'd say us ,certainly at the moment for all the reasons stated before . Mr Laudrup wanted strength within the squad and thats showing fruition , he's got a superb scouting system (who has he brought in who's disappointed ?). He's like Rodgers are finding their feet at the moment and only time will tell Rodgers has gone to a bigger club ,both in terms of support ,Academy, investment , stadium etc , so his potential to succeed should be greater than ours ,what he doesn't have is the certainty that he is given the time to establish LFC challenging for at least the top four places . We on the other hand haven't recently sacked managers and our expectations are lower, thats not to say the club isn't ambitious but the Board believe in consolidating with what we've got and won't extend the club too far.
Better get my nickle in before being inevitably drown out by the usual culprits .... Cap'n Fantastic moved on and we were left with another deficit in players, staff and manager; only this time we made sure we received more than decent money in the process ( you might argue stole money ) and applied it smarty to fill the hole and build the foundation of a new mountain. ML was the person to assume the role of arch bishop of philosophy Swansalona and so far his approach, talent acquisition and cultivation of the philosophy into the next realm of awareness have been near perfect. No more blarney, no more mythical appraisals of mediocre performance, ML is the straight talk express with a clear vision of where to go from here .... It helps that he's actually been there and knows what it takes and the path to get there. Swansalona, the tongue in cheek label based on ball retention, passing accuracy and no-risk / no-frills football, is morphing into a unique brand that delivers style, flair and finish. TV pundits are still loath to praise us, but that's mostly because they have no idea what the **** they are watching. We are not a hoof and hope team, and not as predictable as last season's sideways-sideways--back-back-back team. We have quality all over the park and as it gels it's going to be a thing of beauty.
Interesting article, thanks for posting. I get the feeling both camps would disagree with a couple of things said about them by the opposite fan, the scouser's views on consistency for example. I don't really think many of us, except Dai maybe, give too much thought to rodgers or Liverpool though, but i dont feel there can be any doubt we've shown plenty of glimpses of promise in the early stages under ML. The style of play he's got us using suits really well and I feel it makes us look a much better team away from home, far more capable of getting some sort of result other than 0-0 having done by far the greater share of defending. One of my biggest issues with swans managers in recent times is that we've not scored enough goals, particularly at home and that leas to too many draws, again many at home. This system might not be as water tight as some in the past, sousa springs to mind, but for the small amount of defensive security we may have yielded, i think we've gained much more attacking potential (purely the system im talking) which in the long run is gonna yield so many more points long term. Being set up better at home and away is a pretty good impact from a new manager. Throw in the talent he's added and how impressed we've all been with them as well as Davies coming through and I think we've no reason to concern ourselves with what Brendan is doing.
Everyone has benefited by Rodgers departure, the swans because he achieved our dream and topped that with a 11th place finish, Brendan himself for achieving his ambition of managing a top club, Liverpool FC for getting one of the most talked about managers who is ambitious, Laudrup for getting his first ever chance of a top premiership club, All the new players that laudrup have given a chance to that may not have been here under Brendan. And most of all the fans because we never went to pieces like everyone predicted when Brendan left for liverpool... Everyone is a winner one way or another and i will always be greatfull to Flynn, jackett, Martinez, Sousa and Brendan for all adding a little extra to what we have achieved and of course to Laudrup who has not been fazed by stepping up to the biggest and hardest league in the world and is adding his expertise to making us an even better team...Like i said we are all winners....
Agreed Dai, as it stands at the moment, everyone is getting the best out of it all. There may have been some of our players who were pining for Rodgers early on, but I think they've warmed and adapted to Laudrup so all good all round
please log in to view this image ...Well said Pinball, think you've covered all the bases there mate, top post!.............
Yankee totally agree mate I like the no frills approach and his honest assessment of the teams performance
Who has benifited most ? SCFC !! Never thought it at the time but i think we are far better prepared to stay up now than we would have been with brenden at the helm. I think his downfall is being too close to the players and this season we really needed to freshen things up not maintain the axsis of the old stagers. Monk has battled through to feature but he needed to do that to make it into our fisrt team, i get th feeling that brenden would have shirked a couple of hard decisions and that would have made it harder to bring in fresh blood. Also, his pull toward signing new players is piss poor when you compare it to Laudrup, even with Liverpool stamped on his shirt he still struggles to sign his targets, we would have signed Gylfi maybe, but i get the feeling that he would not have been as prolific this season. Teams definatly had our number and couple that with the fact we aint a suprise to anyone it would have been alot harder with him i charge,i think he knew that too. Us being a small club and Brenden being pretty much a non entity would have meant we would never have players like chico,JDG,ki sung,Michu and itay. Great article by the way
Norway, RE: Gylfi, I wonder now how much we really tried to get his signature when Laudrup got involved. Maybe if we really wanted him we could have negotiated a bit, but can imagine Laudrup being happy to let him go knowing that Michu was available at a steal. I know which I prefer
Funny thing, i read this article about monk on planet swans and the general feeling over there was one of him "being a legend" of course gary is a legend for being captain in all 4 divisions but i felt the timing of this article slightly undermines Laudrup IMO. Its just confirmed what alot of us knew and has shown that there were indeed plenty of the boys pining for brendens touching and stroking of intimate parts! Its an honest interview and i cant blame gary for that, what purpose it serves im not sure, we all know the players loved him, i dont quite get it on some levels though as first chance brenden got he dropped them like a stone .. SA9- Thats a good point, i dont think Laudrup was overly impressed with the price tag of £8m quid comsidering he got Michu, chico and Ki for the same price! i feel gylfi would only have signed if rodgers was here though, he knew that he would then play every week(oh the irony ) and be top dog, looking at it now it looks like we dodged a very expensive bullet there !!
Colin pascoe truly did win the lottery! just because his son was dipping into brendens daughter !! What possible pearls of wisdom does the rosy cheeked one bring to Liverpool?? i was pissed off to see him standing on our touchline and thought he shouldnt have been there, now he is at Liverpool earning **** loads of cash!! unbeleivable !
