I presume the search for our new manager is now well under way and interviews are being arranged as we speak.

Lots of names being bandied around on this site some of whom attract our attention and others that do not based on our personal preferences. Many of us have named our top 1 or 2 and given our reasons for our selections based on their experience, success and many other factors.

We have never had the success in our previous choices that some of our contemporaries have had, and that is why this time it is almost certainly the most critical hiring in a long time. Lower league managers and existing personnel have been the order of the day in previous selections and I think most of us agree that this scenario must change this time around.

A word of caution must be added to our excitement about our potential new manager in that we must accept that, no matter who is chosen, it's a massive gamble on behalf of our board. When the new guy is formally announced at the inevitable press conference a lot of us will ask why this person was selected over our personal choice.

I ask all of you to accept and welcome our new manager when he makes his debut at Ashton Gate by turning up in droves to show BCFC that we still love them despite all that's happened over the last few seasons. Without us the team is nothing and that's why this massive gamble demands all of our support.

Good luck to the board in their selection and we all promise not to second guess your choice because we all know that our club needs everybody's support to take us back to where we want to be.

Completely agree mate, well said. The team needs support now more than ever, hopefully we can get the Gate back to being somewhere opposition teams fear.

City fans are very fickle - a bit of success and we'll be around the 16k mark, dip in form and it's 12k. Unfortunately we don't seem to have had any sustained success for many years now. The playoff run and eventual final against Hull appears to have been a blip on our historical trending. If we get the new digs, we should expect a better following from the casual fan as the whole matchday experience will be better.

We need to get a good manager in and then spend a couple of seasons putting together a squad that are proud to play for us and will fight for each other. That usually means no prima donnas or ex-prem has beens looking for an easy wage in their twighlight years. I suspect that the Maynard saga has caused some internal problems and surely many oif the players resent the cash that was thrown at James for what we are getting in return.

I like Pitman's choice to join us over Blackpool who were prem bound at the time - that's the kind of commitment that we need from all of them.

Not an easy job for the new man but the one positive from all of this mess is that Lansdown will be unlikely to go for another cheap option.

We're in for an interesting few days, that's for sure. Keep the faith boys!
