We have had some good strikers in the past, we have been linked with loads more, Who would be the correct type of striker to play alongside our latest recruit, considering we are supposed to be getting one in Jan (cough cough), SEB LARSSON has backed Nicklas Bendtnerâs decision to end his Arsenal misery after linking up with the Dane for the third time in his career. Sunderlandâs two Scandinavians have enjoyed similar career paths after coming through the ranks in North London. The pair enjoyed a promotion-winning loan spell together at Birmingham and, following Bendtnerâs deadline day move to Sunderland, have now renewed acquaintances at the Stadium of Light. While Larsson (pictured, inset) left Arsenal on a permanent basis six years ago for regular Premier League football, Bendtner has grown frustrated at his lack of opportunities over the last 18 months, with the on-loan striker expected to part all ties from the Emirates in the summer. In the meantime, Bendtner can enjoy a starting spot with Sunderland and has already made his presence felt after playing an influential role in last weekendâs first victory of the campaign against Stoke City. Larsson told the Echo: âObviously we had a very successful season together at Birmingham and Nicklas did very well. He scored a lot of goals and was our main striker. âHe seems really happy when Iâve spoken to him. âHe probably felt it was his time to move on and enjoy his football somewhere else. Iâm delighted he decided to come here because I think he can be a big player for us. âPeople probably think heâs a lot older than he is. âBut the only spell in his career when he played regularly was at Birmingham and he did fantastically well, so heâll benefit from being on the pitch more often than not.â Top scorer Larsson is quick to point out that 6ft 4in Bendtner is not just a targetman, although the strikerâs aerial threat resulted in Sunderlandâs crucial second against the Potters. Stoke defender Jonathan Woodgate was forced to head into his own net to prevent Larssonâs inswinging cross reaching Bendtner, with the duo no stranger to each otherâs strengths. âI know how Nicklas plays and how he likes the ball and I think he knows how I deliver the ball,â said Swedish midfielder Larsson. âIt helps that thereâs someone to aim for and, in general play as well, heâs not just a guy who will flick it on. âHe tries to take the ball down off his chest and thatâs really important for us, especially in spells when youâre under pressure. âYou need the guy up front who can get hold it up.â Bendtner is also another target from set pieces, with Sunderlandâs two goals from deadball situations against Stoke highlighting the threat of Larssonâs delivery. âThe manager has spoken about how important set pieces are,â added the 26-year-old, who is expected to shake off a toe injury to keep his place for Mondayâs trip to Norwich. âFor me when I take set pieces, Iâve just got to give the people in the box a chance to score.â Is it a European type striker, or a fancy dann African type we need? I like that Pavelchenko? fella.
It depends on are we getting a top striker in January, always a bad time to buy or do we get a fill in until summer. I have a feeling it may be a fill in because many of the top targets wont be available. Call me daft but I would go for the suggestion vehas gave yesterday, bring in Owen on a 6 month loan deal.
Who ever it is he needs to want to come and play. Bent and Gyan have stuffed us big style so Bruce needs to look at the players attitude and social life as well as being a good player. If Owen is injury free maybe worth a loan and we get on well with Fergie lol i think something will happen in Jan
Intresting read from Bendy on that bit, he said he is renting a nice house and will probably do what he did in London, spend his time off at home with his family.
I would be happy with Pav /Owen (Loan) /Doyle /Papa Cisse or A cheeky bid for Kuyt could be canny he has been on the bench for Liverpool this season he 31 but a great player who can get goals
Saha is really out of favour with Moyes i would take him But as one of my quotes was players attitude and im not sure if he has the right attitude i would also take Pav/ Doyle/ Cisse not keen on Kuyt
Yeah I think Kevin Doyle would work well with Bendtner as he works his socks off all game but also sticks his body on the line to get on the end of crosses and Bendtner ran the channels quite well against Stoke and put a delicious ball across the box and the guy who should be there to score it is the type of player we need in January. Doyle also sound slike he has the right attitude and is exactly the type of lad who would fit in well at Sunderland. Granted he isnt a massive name or prolific player but look where this has got us in the past. I think hes a vital part of Mick's side though so he wouldnt sell easily, especially not in January but we could use the Gyan loan money to purchase him. We will have had a decent amount of time to scout for strikers though when January arrives so I dont see why we couldnt buy a £10 million pound marksman but maybe we need longer than that so I can see why people are suggesting Owen as a loan. Agbonlahor from Villa? Although he seems to be getting games down there now.
No i think its March at the earliest Maybe we should get Mohammad Ali untill then sorry ill get me coat
Unrealistically: Unfortunately Darren Bent would be the perfect partner Realistically: Owen (remember that double he scored against you ) or Kevin Doyle
I think we won't be signing a striker in Jan. We have Bendy (whoever came up with that needs shooting), Campbell, Ji and Wickham - That's 4. It also means that the lads we've purchased will get game time too. If we are buying for the future then we should stick with them and play them. I understand that it's all come about quicker than we all expected (having to use them) but It's a great opportunity for them all to gel and grow as a unit together. O'shea and Brown are ture leader and will guide them in the right direction. Bruce out!!
Owen loan until the end of the season and then look for someone in the summer. You never know if Campbell gets fit and on form, Ji and Wickham come good and Bendy signs we might not need anyone. If I was Bruce I would be looking at Gignac, Marseille are struggling at the bottom of the table and he might be interested in a move, from what I can tell he is young (ish) and a French international, has a reputation for being strong and a handful as well as a half decent goal scoring record. Whoever we get were going to have to take a risk on because proven players will IMO not come here.
Was'nt he the player supposedly involved in the Gyan deal on deadline day but was not interested in coming here
He said he was interested in coming here but Marseille would not let him come for talks until they had sorted out the Gyan end of the deal. If he wants to come and we can make a decent bid for him then why not?? I think 10-12m would be enough. I can see Marseille sacking Dechamps and getting in a new manager who might want money to buy his own players?
I really don't see the point in fergie signing Owen on 1 year deals and then loaning him out? Common sense is needed here I think.
For me, it has to be Papiss Cisse. 22 goals in the Bundesliga last season, and 5 in the first 6 games this season. The kid's on fire!!!!
Would agreed with people saying Owen on loan, still a fantastic finisher but no way would he come. Seems more interested in his horses these days and the odd cup run out for Manure.
