Ok, just for a minute forget all the rumours. Forget that we are linked to every Birmingham player ever, and forget that we usually sign championship or below players. You know our budget (roughly). Who would you be looking to bring in? The world is your playground.
Jordan Rhodes-I could see him linking well with Holt or Morison. Curtis Davies. Thats the budget gone!
For me; Forwards: John Guidetti (Manchester City - loan) Midfielders: Vurnon Anita (Ajax) or Anthony Annan (Schalke - recently loaned out to Vitesse) should Crofts and Smith leave Defenders: Anita can play left back, but I'm still working on this!
Yeah, that was my main reason for providing an alternative. TransferMarkt has him at around 5m but with the Newcastle interest we would almost certainly get priced out. Annan is properly solid anyway!
We may be able to afford one 'big' purchase but the worry with that is unbalancing the whole squad. The budget was pretty healthy and to date we have two very cheap transfers so there is money available. But still think that a superstar in relative terms would be the wrong move.
Annan would probably only cost around 3m and i personally rate him higher than any of our current midfielders - if we could afford his wages surely he would be worth a punt at that amount?
You could always make Shola Ameobi your 'marque' signing! Afterall he's been waiting at ASDA for ****ing ages
I'd really like to see steven fletcher in the team; I know teams like sunderland are after him and wolves are not desperate to sell
I'd like him as well, but we couldn't afford the quoted 10m :/ He's a good all rounder, I'm fairly surprised he doesn't score more often actually!
Think Fletch has more of a poacher instinct than Morison does, Supers With a 12m budget I'd like..Davies (3m), Snoddy (3m), Bridcutt (2m), Clyne (2m), Guidetti (Loan) + Naughton (Loan). Damn that would make us strong!
Forget all this. I think Yaya Toure, Mats Humels, Andrea Pirlo, Fábio Coentrão, Thiago Silva, Lionel Messi and Jason Scotland. Only one of these is a joke.
agree, what i meant was their all-round game is similar. not sure it would benefit the team much. it would be a lot of money for a like-for-like player! clyne was being talked about at £4m+, snodgrass too. i think we are underestimating players current values. not too bothered by the latter anymore as i think butterfield is an inspired signing. i do think we need more options out wide but burke will surely be cheaper and has more pace. big fan of bridcutt but whats the betting lambert is in for him?
Perhaps I am underestimating some prices but with a year on Snoddy's contract I think 3m is fair and I thought I read somewhere Clyne was running into his last year? Might not be the case though. Although I agree Butterfield is an inspired signing I still think another winger would provide good competition for Pilks and Bennett and I imagine CH using 2 wingers more often than PL which may mean we require an extra hand out there. Bridcutt or an alternative DM is a necessity for me so I would be delighted with him. And ofcourse an experienced CB would be great too. The 2 loans? Naughton to compete with Clyne and Tierney on either flank and Guidetti has had an outstanding season on loan in Holland and I imagine City would loan him out for a very reasonable fee/wages.
i do like your thinking re: transfers irdan they would be very positive signings. i'd be pretty happy if we only get one of the aforementioned.
I'm sure ive read Clyne is now out of contract hence the low fee (tribunal) and the amount of clubs that are in for him. John Guidetti will not be coming to norwich, as much as i would like him too . Re. Bridcutt, that foreign fellow that PL has signed plays holding midfield, so might mean he is no longer in the market for Bridcutt. My signings would be... Clyne, Mariappa, Bridcutt, Raheem Sterling(loan) John Guidetti(loan) But realistically none of these will happen.
It is very hard to gage how desirable we are as a club to players. I'd imagine we now seem a very attractive option for lower league players looking to make the step up while maybe established players both here and abroad are less interested (because of money?). Would be very happy with some of the names mentioned, particularly Bridcutt.
