    West & South West

I did this a few years ago and it seemed to be reasonably well received

So Number 1 as a test of whether other people would want to do this is....
Who would/do you support (other than Bristol City) in other geographic areas of the country and why ?

Maybe it's a town you were born in/grew up in, maybe it's a team whose results you always look for because a mate lives there, maybe you used to holiday there, etc. Or maybe there's no link at all.

For the West & South West here are the options, but feel free to nominate any other team(s) by all means

    Cheltenham Town
    Forest Green Rovers
    Bath City
    Exeter City
    Plymouth Argyle
    Torquay United

Personally I always look for Torquay's results.

I had great holidays there as a kid and as an adult, and I'd like to see them back in the football league.

I lived in Norwich for 8 years, where I met Mrs Onefor and two of our kids were born there, but I could never bring myself to go to Carrow Road,to watch, (although I did a fair few mobile discos there).....and was encouraged enough times by friends ....but I do watch for their results and am constantly depressed, that a City the size of Norwich are able to achieve so much more than us at Ashton Gate....Other than that.....not bothered about any other club, apart from PMSL at the gas!!!

That's a good and interesting reason onefor, but Norwich isn't in the West & South West area, but point taken

I know this makes me a rarity amongst City fans, but having lived in Swindon for so long (24 years) I find myself following their results.
I have been to see them a few times - we can get tickets for £10 a game through work - and going for a few beers and a football game occasionally is quite an enjoyable social experience - especially when you don't really care about the result (unless it affects City of course)!!!

I also quite like Forest Green Rovers, but unlike Swindon I don't follow their results, I just like them, well, because they are such a tiny club.

'Support' is a bit strong though - I could never 'support' another club - unless the England national team counts as another 'club' ......

Other than Bristol City I have always had a soft spot for Yeovil Town because as a young man I went to Huish Park for many games. I often wondered how the league brass allowed such a slope to be used for any matches but seeing the faces of the opponents trying to cope with balls coming in from the wings used to bring a smile to my face. Perhaps we should install such a slope at Ashton Gate to give us that home field advantage. :emoticon-0105-wink:

As my old man is a lifelong Plymouth fan, I always look out for their results.

I do like Yeovil - mainly because of our mutual dislike for Weymouth (I am from Dorchester)

Newport butt. I know it’s not South West but it’s less than 10 miles as the crow flies

My son who naturally is an avid City fan has moved to Taunton and has become fond of Taunton Town, nickname the Peacocks I understand, I have no other teams locally so I nominate them with pride.

    Thanks for all the replies.

So is this worth continuing with for other parts of the country ?

Probably, as we have nothing much else to do until August, have we?

I’ll start it off by telling you that I always look for Aldershot’s results. When I first got married I worked in Guildford but lived about 12 miles away in Aldershot. Watched them regularly as the Rec was only a 15 minute walk away.
Watched City there in the old division 4. Remember a 1-0 defeat but still can’t believe how we were denied a blatant penalty!

My dad was from South Devon half between Torquay and Exeter, he had no affinity with either team, although he played on Plainmoor several times in South Devon trials.

He moved to Bristol in 1951, moved to Bedminster and was from that moment a totally committed Bristol City fan until the day he died. I was born in 1953 and he took me to my first game at Ashton Gate in 1958.

I always feel close to my dad at Ashton Gate on match days, the roar before kick off always get me, I am now looking forward to the start of next season with renewed hope, I just hope that hope like so many isn't false hope this time around.
