I know this question has been asked before but I am putting it a slightly different way. OMITTING Siggy, Caulker and other rumoured/previously mentioned targets, which players, realistically, would you like to see with us next season? Primarily, I am thinking of us raiding clubs who are relegated, I have not given this a great deal of thought and will probably amend my choices later but completely off the top of my head, I offer the following (maximum 5 picks). FLETCHER: WOLVES. PEDERSON: BLACKBURN. MARK DAVIES: BOLTON. DUNN: BLACKBURN. (I know he recently signed a new contract) JARVIS: WOLVES. Others in the frame were, Doyle (Wolves); Figueroa (Wigan); Hoillet (Blackburn - off abroad?) and the Boro centre back whose name escapes me at the moment. As I said, an off the cuff selection that I might alter later on. Who do you guys fancy?
we need a spanish or italian striker for certain, the british ones cant play our style to good effect, also we need a couple of tall defenders to get some decent height in the squad,...we dont need that many players....
Looks like you're putting your money on Bolton going down Ivor. I'm not too sure yet. I think you've hit quite a few that I chose in another thread. Jarvis is a good winger who can cross the ball so he'd be an asset and good competition for the squad. Doyle is a good shout but may not be too different from Graham. I do agree with Dai that we could add a bit of variety to our front line. I do like Mark Davis and is in the Joe Allen mould. Pederson is quality but think his wages would be too high. How about Jaaskeleinan as cover for Vorm? Think he's out injured for now and that's why the ginger kid has had his chance. As for a centre back - who knows? None spring to mind. Faurlin from QPR is another one if he recovers from injury. As long as the players coming in suit our style then I'm happy. This quickly rules out the likes of Karl Henry an the other cloggers.
Mark Davies is class and I'd love to see him here. Jarvis is good as well but I don't know if he'd fit our style?
Faurlin from QPR would be ok provided we don't get deducted 10 points for contract irregularities. Shay Given and Agbonlahor from Villa if they go down. Matthew Bates is the Boro defender you're talking about, I think. He may still be on the radar. I still like Emnes, but would put him in the same box as Graham & Doyle, so probably no advantage.
If we can retain Sig , Caulker , Vorm & the rest of the squad don't go anywhere ... I wouldn't get much to tell you the truth , infrastructure issues mostly on my agenda .
Matt Bates has, sadly, done his cruciate again. http://sportsinjuries.vivomed.co.uk/534/matthew-bates-knee-injury-strikes-again/
Cracker, I agree but if we don't have the playing staff to ensure we're competitive next season then infrastructure such as an extra 5000 seats won't be worth. Priorities in my eyes are (in order): - academy - playing staff - coaching staff - stadium expansion
MofNone, it was your post that triggered my question. Apologies for not acknowledging it but I couldn't be arsed to search the threads for your name. You are right about Bolton, of course, because right now Wolves are the only relegation certs - just making a few assumptions. Aswan, I think the Villa boys and Faurlin would cost too much in wages and, yes, Bates was the centre back I was thinking of; though, as Scott pointed out it seems he's injured. Scott, the reason I like Jarvis is because I think that Buck could easily mould him to our style. He plays football, can beat a man and crosses a wicked ball, something we badly lack. What concerns me most is that I don't see a ready replacement for Caulker as for the purposes of this thread I'm assuming he won't be with us. As ever, I would like to see some physicality and height in our defence which wouldn't go amiss in midfield either. I'm hoping that there might be some mileage in this Traore guy who, at 6ft 8" would give us a completely different option. However, he's been excluded as he's been on our radar already.
Bit of a toughie, this one. We will be doing the same as quite a few other teams, including Narwich & QPR, if they stay up. What we don`t want are journeymen, I would rather look for hungry players, perhaps there are a few in that list. Dai has a good point with regards to looking beyond these shores. Whatever happens we need to get our skates on and strike while the iron is hot, and not leave it till the last minute, as has happened before. As to the topic, I`ll leave it to those in charge. I would say that if Vorm decides to go (I`m not saying he will!), there should be 1 or 2 available to fill that position.
Scott- Looks like we had a lucky escape with Bates !! I would stay well away from players with dodgy knees/previous knee operations for a start !! Seems the fitness levels required to play the game these days are pushing the body to the limits of its design and beyond. I would like to see us sign a centre half or 2 , not intrested in name players really, caulker was unknown to us and has been superb, there must be similar guys out there that Brenden knows. I think we can take advantage of the loan market and maybe secure some real top quality talent, if we beat Man utd then next day get straight on the phone to Man city and ask for a return in the favour!! The names mentioned above are all decent enough, but they dont seem much better than what we already have. mark davies looks a good player. not much else inspires me in the prem leaugue at our price range so over to Spain and Holland for a few lucky dips i reckon
Think we will get some people we have never heard of before, can see us going for some youth products who have progressed through the ranks from the bigger clubs . And going to the continent for some , can't see any Italians in that Superswan but as there are some links to Spain with Brendan maybe something from barca or real Madrid ? The great thing about all this is of course another season in the premier league, something to be excited about
No offence taken Ivor. Anyone know how many scouts we have on the books and where they're based? Be interesting to know where we've been looking. You never know the Euro champs could open our eyes to some opportunities.
Or worse, flag up some bargains we were already chasing! We should be looking to do all our business early in the window.
Other Dunn who put in a good shift against us for Rovers, I have no idea about any of the others. Hennessy might be a good pickup in goal if he wants out of Wolves - has to be better than Trammel. On another front: Fabio Da Silva is likely to be loaned out by ManU next season (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17719222), I wouldn't mind picking him up for a season. Also Adebayor is likely to be loaned out again from ManC ... wages might be the big problem, but if they could swallow some of them, he would be a useful addition.
i cant see more than three or possibly four players needed in the summer but as yet we dont know if some of our players may be off to pastures new, Vorm as an obvious example. mind you if that does happen that would be a massive blow to us,....Its going to be an exciting summer with some highs and some lows with players coming and going...
Thing is Super, Monk, Tate, Gower are all a year older. We really need an influx of younger, potentially fitter and healthier players, of like or better quality just to provide depth. Adding first team, first XI quality is going to depend on who leaves as you say.
I like Ricky Lambert from the saints he`s coming upto the prem and has a lot of goals in the championship he could improve even more with us ? a very good player imo.
