Under normal circumstances I think you're right. But most players know Abramovich will spend what it takes to get back in CL quickly. I think more than no CL being the obstacle, it is that Abramovich himself constantly destroys any possibility of improvement . With deluded signings, misplaced loyalty to some players, and an inability to understand, even after almost 900 mill has been spent, that you CANNOT buy success, you have to earn it. Joses early winning run has ,in retrospect, been our biggest problem. I think we will still get the players we need IF we get the right manager , AND if he's allowed to decide on the players with NO interference from above. Unlikely though when you see we are looking at players , but have NO manager.

As I keep saying, a blind squirrel will find a nut at some stage. Kalou has a massive amount to prove and yes, he has scored some important goals but has failed far too often.
Well I would sign RB - Van Der Weil or CM - Javi Martinez(can cover CB too which is handy) CAM - Modric or Ozil W - Hazard or Lavezzi or Lucas ST - Llorente or Cavani or Falcao or even Huntelaar And maybe if we lose Cole LB - Jordi Alba or Fabio Coentrao I can honestly see Drogba, Malouda, Bosingwa, Meireles, Essien and even Lampard out the door with Lukaku and De Bruyne becoming squad players
