For me it is Udders, their owner is willing to put money into the club and they have been building season on season. Posh will probably lose some good players this summer, not sure how MKD are up there and Bournemouth will possibly lose good players as well. So Udders for me, not worried about any of the promoted teams either now Gills aren't coming up.
Huddersfield for me too as get rid of a team that will be very competive next season, bournemouth will do a swindon next season
Udders for me to, they have been consistent over the last two seasons and deserve the trip. On a personal note, living where I do, the Posh and the concrete wombles are close away games to go to so whilst the posh may be difficult points away I am looking forward to revenge at the stadium MK. As for Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic ..... we all like a day beside the seaside.
For me it's Peterboro... For the Simple reason that i think they'll probably be able to hang onto the vast majority of their better players next season. Also they appear to have a few quid so restructuring their squad shouldn't be a problem for them.
Houndal, Do you reckon they've got the financial stability to keep their better players should they not go up...? I don't know what there financial state is but I deffo think they've got 3 or 4 who could play in the Championship!
Franco, I think they do. Interestingly - and these figs do not take account of Jan spending - the top 4 clubs in terms of outlay were: Posh 1.1m Udders 1m Soton 0.675m Brighton 0.65m 2 Auto and the other 2 in P/O What does that prove - you need to spend in the summer and not in January? However next in the list was Brizzle Rovers with 0.475m and they got relegated. Lies damned lies and statistics. I will though have a punt on Udders vs Posh final, hoping we lose one of them for next season.
Wow, nice to see others actually finally moved over. I'd like to see Hudders..as you want the best team out of the division.
That certainly makes for interesting reading Houndal... I know Hudd spent big on Alan Lee from Palace which probably accounts for a fair chunk of their outlay. Peterboro made a good few quid from the sale of their prolific forward Aaron McClean... It's without question that we must strengthen if we want to progress. Your point of doing your business during the summer is key imo. Bringing players in during pre season allows them the time they need to familiarise themselves with what it means to be a Charlton player and for the gaffer to impose upon them his ideals. for the future of of fure club. What's your prediction for where we'll finish up next season?
Franco, I am not confident Powell has the jacobs to get us promoted. IMO we need a Warnock type - kick ass and take no ****. Seems to me our players have it too easy - maybe wrong, but since Curbs we seem to have had what people generally term "nice guys". Well thats the very last thing we need. Powell just seems too matey to me - I think 2/20 pretty much sums up our chances. I also hate his "Parky" like dross he utters after every game - just takes us for idiots. I really hope I am wrong, and I will be very interested to see if the board are prepared to trust him with their cash. I also say I am dismayed by (paper) talk of retaining Dailly - the key member of a defence that leaked like a sieve. Biding my time over ST purchase - I refused during Parkinsons tenure, and I need convincing under Powells. To anser your question. To date how can we finish any better than mid table?
I must confess that I too share your pessimism in regard to our gaffer. I too am sick of all our so called nice guy managers who promise so much yet deliver so little. When you look at the promoted teams and those in and around the playoffs in the Championship and League One, the managers are in the main big characters that I couldn't imagine taking any prisoners (Poyet, Lambert, Warnock, Dave Jones, Billy Davies, Lee Clark). Heââ¬â¢s got some convincing to do but I sincerely hope we are both wrong and that Powell will mature and become a great success for usââ¬Â¦ I regards to Dailly weââ¬â¢ll have to agree to disagree as Iââ¬â¢m firmly of the opinion that he must be retained at all costs...!! Imo the fella is quite simply a class act. Ok he's 38 which means he's no long term solution but alongside Simon Webster he's the best reader of a game I've seen in a Charlton shirt... The season before last he was our player of the year and you donââ¬â¢t become a bad player overnight. With the likes of Solly and Mambo coming through i think it's imperative that we retain a player of his undoubted experience and leadership. For me he'd be the first one Iââ¬â¢d present a contract to if i were the chairman. All season he has never failed to put a shift in for us and he always approaches every game as if it were his last (after all, at 38 each one could be). This unlike several others who only started giving a monkeys in the last four or five games in a desperate attempt to con the powers that be into chucking them another bone (we all know who they are). I agree that our defense has been poor this season and that we desperately need to invest in strengthening this area of our squad. However you can not lay the blame for this squarely at Daillyââ¬â¢s door. Imo Dailly has been our most consistent performer at the back and I would welcome him being offered a new deal. Iââ¬â¢m not saying that he should be automatic first choice CB but I am saying that he should be kept on as I believe he is still more than good enough to play with regularity at this level. On top of that I feel that the knowledge and experience he can pass onto out youngsters and any new recruits is so very importantââ¬Â¦
Franco, on reflection and as suggested by some Dailly could probably do a job as mentor etc to the younger defenders. But as a regular, yep we must agree to disagree. On another point, IMO he was / is a rubbish captain. We need a strong kick ass leader - Dailly showed none of those abilities to me at all. Where was the leader on the pitch over the last 3 months? That said I dont really know who fits the bill - certainly not BWP - but again IMO a good and respected captain is vital.
Bournemouth won't go up that much is certain, they'll be battling us for top half positions next year. Hudd preferably as it's a long trip.
Allhell - anything out of the O/S is spun to death - I tend not to read any atricle from there. Have you read any of the match reports - absolute utter drivel, drove me away. But TY have read the statement, and doesnt change my view at all. Typical end of season stuff, all waffle and what he wants us to hear. I was rather more hoping for a Churchillian statement
I too would love to see a "kick arse" captain put in charge of affairs on the pitch, but like you i don't see any candidates of that ilk within our current crop of so called players. Maybe the gaffer can bring one in...
