There are, I'm sure some good apprentices but, of the established jockeys, my choice would be:

    Flat. William Buick
    NH. Noel Fehily

This is purely about preference and not intended to be an argument about why x is better or worse than y. It will be interesting to see how wildly different, or similar, the preferences are.

It would really depend on the type of horse, for instance I'd want a different jockey on a run of the mill handicapped than on a classic horse. However in general I'd go

    NH - Nico de Boinville
    Flat - Ryan Moore

Good point. I think we will assume it's top class horses for this purpose.

It's scary to get this far down the answers with no mention of Frankie Dettori or Richard Johnson!

Problem with Frankie is that he only seems to try on big days, and I'm not a massive Richard Johnson fan to be honest.

I was introduced to racing in a truly wonderful era, espescially when it came to the jockeys.

Piggott, Lewis, Mercer, Carson, Starkey followed by the brilliant Cauthen and then Swinburn. When I think of those jockeys it brings home to me what an average bunch we have riding today and for me the only one you could put anywhere near that list is Frankie.

There was another good jockey who left the shores in strange circumstances but can't remember his name (might have been Moore). And of course Gordon Richards and Scobie Breasley

Every jockey ****s up from time to time, vast majority of them are idiots.

Suppose the best comes down to who is consistently efficient, its amazing how many of them will use a horse on the way round, going needlessly wide or riding one from the start only to have to fight it for the next 3 furlongs etc obviously have to take into account a massive percentage of runners here are non triers as well.

Over here Moore has to be the best overall at the minute just for the amount of times he has produced top rides all over the world in recent years, but as we seen today and plenty of other times, hes far from perfect every time, and you could certainly argue for Dettori against him.

Tommy Berry for me is one of the best, hope he comes over here one day, and obviously Joao Moreira is elite.
