The Taliban don't drink, which makes them considerably harder than the IRA. Anyone can start a ruck when they're p!ssed, especially if they also happen to be Irish.
Taliban would win simply as have the balls to sacrifice their own life when taking out the enemy. Where as the IRA would not make sacrifices like that
I think the Taliban would definitely make home advantage count. And I'd fancy them to score away from home in Oireland. So its Taliban for the next round, easy peasy.
I'd back the paddies in a pub fight, the Taliban simply don't have the experience fighting in that environment. In mountainous terrain, I'd go for the Taliban.
