If one of our top players had a 'do not sell at any price' sign around their neck.... Who would you choose?

I've gone for Cabaye as he does so much for the team.

Krul. We'd have to pay A LOT to replace him.

The others would be hard to replace, but Krul is special and really rare.

The other good thing about Krul is his age.
I'd say that, in 3-4 years he will be in the top 3 in the world for sure.

Krul is 24 I believe. But for a GK that's younger than a 24 year old outfield player.

GK's, in general, can play to a later age than outfield players. He'll be fully developed around 26-27, which seems late, but for a GK, he'd still have another 10-15 years after his 26-27th bday.

Krul, keepers can play on until they reach late 30's, 40 in alot of cases. To be so good, arguably one of the best in the league, at the age he's at, is something we'd find impossible to replace. Outfield players are in a lot greater supply imo, and highly talented young ones come around more often than young keepers.

Also, to find a replacement, we'd probably have to buy a first teamer, setting a chain of people having to buy keepers in place. Teams normally have one quality keeper, good enough for our first team, whereas they normally have at least some quality cover for almost all outfield players, so are potentially more likely to sell.

HBA. I understand the reasons for people picking Krul, but I think that the difference between a great keeper and a very good keeper is minimal, and will not have a major impact on the team as a whole, but the difference between a great attacker and very good attacker would have a greater impact.

Colo is a close second, would be first but attacking players are more expensive than defenders, so HBA would be harder to replace.

We'd struggle to replace him on our budget. Agree that krul is special - and young, but if he goes, we call Forster back from Celtic. If Colo goes, we're knackered.

Have to agree Tash, Krul would be very difficult to replace, great keeper, still very young, got heaps of experience and already playing at International level, he seems very happy and settled in the North East.

Replacing Krul won't be easy, but i've got some scouting info for you guys. Keep your eyes on Jeroen Zoet, 21y old goalie who gets his paycheck from PSV Eindhoven.
Potential world class goalie, he'll be second choice for next season after Przsemyslaw Tyton(the guy who saved a penalty in the game between Poland and Greece).
He has had a great season at RKC where the fans chanted: Zoet, There it is! Zoet, there it is! (like Whoomp, there it is)
If there would be one goalie who is in potential as good as Vorm and Krul, it's him.

You heard it from me first!

Btw i got Cabaye as the hardest to replace in this squad.

Thanks for the insight. I'm sure Carr will have his eyes on him.

Close call betwees Cab's and Krul for me but voted Krul, like Tash says great keepers are hard to come by and he is also a home grown player in European competitions

To honest when I look back through the years, this one is fairly simple for me. Collocini. Money isn't the problem, its finding players of his ilk who can come in and martial your whole defence, and control the shape of your team which he does. Saylor, Santon, Willo, Simpson, Cabaye, all take their lead from him. You tend to find very few can come in and do it straight away, its a role you grow into like he has. We'd spend another 3-4 years getting someone to take on that mantle and they'd still sturggle to be as good as Colo.

    He can shag my lass.

To be honest, dozens of top class strikers, AM and wingers available. Propper defenders and backs are a rarity these days.
Though it is interesting to see that the amount of world class goalies is rising. Sandomierski, Ter Stegen, Courtois, Krul, De Gea all below the age of 25 if i'm correct.
