While the top of the Premier League is still widely open, the race to gain promotion from the Championship is also wide open. A few months ago Bournemouth and one of Derby or Middlesbrough looked set to claim the automatic spots. However, a resolute Ipswich under Mick McCarthy and a change of fortunes for Norwich have added to the mix. Despite Brentford's recent turmoil they posted a convincing win over Blackpool tonight and Watford who have plenty of backing and were close to promotion last year are all within five points of second and two points of third. So who do you think will get promoted this summer?
And me. Started with Brentford, but changed it to Watford as I don't think Brentford will sustain their form
The teams I'd want to come up, in order: Bournemouth, Brentford, Derby/Norwich, Ipswich, Middlesbrough/Watford. Expecting it to be Derby, Middlesbrough and one of Norwich/Watford though. That said, a Norwich/Ipswich playoff final would be pretty tasty...
Anyone see the stats from the Brentford Blackpool game? Pretty insane Brentford Shots on goal - 42 Blackpool Shots on goal - 2
I don't want Bournemouth to come up. Last time we played a decent proportion of their fans were looking to pick a fight all the way along their walk from St Mary's to Above Bar, then they managed to start a huge scrap around the bus that I had just boarded with Onionman Jr and one of his friends. Looked very much like it would spill onto the bus for a while and was thoroughly nasty. I suspect if they come up we'll see more of that, only worse, as they try to turn it into some kind of grudge match. Vin
I am not knocking loan players, especially how well we have used the system this year but 3 of derbys most influential players recently are on loan, ince, bent and Lingard. They will need a good black box in the summer for replacements if they do come up. Mind you there are some good loan players in the championship like bamford and interesting to see what happens to them next year
Yeah, this weird pretend rivalry they stoked up (when we've always been very supportive of them in reality) really annoyed me!
Living near Watford and having spent a fair amount of time at The Vic due to Hornet supporting girlfriend, I wouldn't bet against them. Comfortably the best strike partnership in that league, you just never know what Watford team will turn up each week. Bit like Saints a few years back.
