:smile:Assuming we go up, who will come a-wumming on our site (apart from Pompey obviously). Bournemouth have gone all quiet. Brighton still bearing grudge (even a trophy couldn't satisfy them!). Huddersfield show no taste for it, too busy winning games. Any suggestions for whom we can offend just by existing?

There will probably be a few teams with less cash to chuck about than us that will have a pop.

Any of the relegated teams who will think their too big for us! And if blackpool come down expect the same sour grapes from holloway and co that we got from them after the fa cup.

Blackpool. Forgotten about them...nice one! All ready with 'Premier League, you're having a laugh.' Didn't want them relegated before but do now. Holloway and Poyet..now there's two faces to curdle milk.

Everyone. They'll all accuse us of being arrogant when we predict us to finish 13th.

Why hate Leeds? A great club with whom we had good competitive matches last season, and HOPEFULLY will have next term.

Leeds unpopularity stemmed (correct me if I'm wrong) from having a period of being almost unbeatable. Uncompromising team who won 1.0. Their fall from grace was far greater than ours, but they kept their fans as well. Leeds and Millwall may be used to it, but it's strange for Saints to be unpopular. We've always been the fluffy bunnies of English football. Perhaps this is a sign that we're on our way up.

Strewth Fran.........up early this morning....... Leeds popularity dropped many many years ago. Mainly because they were kinda unplayable for a while........the reason though for this unpopularity was they had a reputation for kicking all over and around the pitch. A lot of the every day stuff you now see, the shirt pulling the holding of a persons arm under neath yours and the elbowing. You name it they had a reputation for doing it. There was rumour that they were actually coached to do these things. I don't know if any of this is true however they really did not take any prisoners. Then later as Leeds began their decline (and incidentally as their reputation seemed to be over coming the earlier tarnish) there was the incidence of their Chairman trying to get one over the Football league. This above all else really got to the other fans. It really was like pouring oil on smoking coals that and the arrogance of the minority of their fans keeping on about they were too big a club to be where they are etc. This also did not endear themselves to other fans. Rupert Lowe also tried to beat the system, he alone was responsible for tarnishing the good name of the Saints. Fans do not like it when they appear to see a team trying to beat the system. Look at Pompeys reputation....... for both Saints and Pompey it will take years to live the accusations down. QPR are just about to go through the exact same unpopularity in my view again because fans do not like you trying to beat the system. To answer the original question, certainly Brighton and Gus Poyet, Pompey with out a doubt and Bournemouth should they also make it. I think the other teams will treat us with indifference. They will see us as the newly promoted team and think they can beat the hell out of us because we are new to the league in the first year. Second year they will park the bus <laugh> OK I know I'm joking but I really do believe they will treat us with a bit more respect that second year as I really think we will do more than hold out own.

You tell it as it is, Beddytare. I used the word uncompromising when I actually meant everything you said. I haven't seen the new Leeds much, but presume they are not the same. I don't think other teams will take us too lightly if we get promoted. Wary is the word I think I'd use. However, they are likely to be more adventurous than some in League 1. Still, off to work and back for the result. COYR

Who says he will still be playing for us?.........Incidentally have you seen Lambert of late......At a guess he has lost close to a stone since joining us.........ridicule away. As every time I have witnessed someone trying to wind him up he scores........So should we be lucky enough to meet you next season and Lambert actually plays........ridicule away and you will be doing us a favour!!!

Millwall will probably hate you for no reason, that's their pathetic way of attempting to make sure their club isn't forgotten due to being insignificant, small and completely inglorious. Brighton will no doubt wave prawn sandwiches at you from their swanky new stadium as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong Beddytare, but I'm sure I read somewhere that Southampton were considered (by the mainstream at least who are often wrong) an even more cynical team than Leeds in that era. And just to correct the claim that Leeds were a team who "won 1.0", savour this!

I believe the Saints were termed the ale house team by none other than Sir Alex Ferguson.......He was right too......I used to join the Saints at a bar at the back of Swaythling station in Southampton on many many occasions after matches. I have seen Ron Davis bless him crawling around on his hands and knees.....and for him to turn up next morning on time to start training. No, Saints never had the reputation that the Leeds team did. Although there were quite a few teams including ourselves probably tried to emulate them, we and the others really didn't get close. Oh yes I do remember quite a few thrashings we took. If memory serves me we took 2x 8.0 's and one 7 nil in one season, but we survived. We continued like that for some 27 years. There will not be a single argument from a old Saints fan if you said we boxed well above our weight for years. We did, but how we enjoyed it. We have had some right good battles with Leeds over the years too. Although to be frank I think in most Leeds came off the best in the early years if not so much in the latter. Apart from the one you mention cannot remember much more than and odd goal defeat at your place. Certainly a few draws. Millwall who are they.....what league are they in then......<laugh>

I think you'll find it was Bill Shankley who called Saints "Ale House" footballers back in the late 60's/early70's. To be fair any team that has the likes of John McGrath, Dennis Hollywood and Brian O'Neil in it was hardly going to be the prettiest of outfits, but it kept us in the top flight for far longer than we ever thought.

I bow to your superior memory........but we still didn't have a reputation like Leeds did......of that I am sure!!
