I would too. He seemed to be finally finding some confidence at the end of last season, and as we saw in the euros his work rate and commitment seemed much greater. If Brendan Rodgers doesn't see him in their plans and puts him out for a loan, then I think he'd be a great addition. Especially with the pace of Cisse next to him to collect any knock ons.
Yeah but we are trying desperately to get rid of 3 of the them, Dj, Betty and Hulse. That would leave us with 4.
While he would significantly enhance our squad (and walk into the first team alongside Cisse IMO) it would be a short-term gain at the price of developing players we actually own. We already have one loanee that we're giving experience and coaching to for the benefit of another team. I don't want to end up in a situation next Summer where we end up scrambling to recover the team to the strength it was just because half the players have returned to their parent clubs. Loans are worth it as far as securing survival is concerned but, if we can optimistically assume that we will stay up, I'd be happy enough finishing a couple of places lower with a fully owned squad that we can build on. It's a mid term rather than short term view and might not be universally popular but it's my view nonetheless.
Too many up front at the moment, not saying the guys not a good player (just hugely over priced) but not for me, don't see where he would fit into my plans for the team... Obviously MH's plans may differ from mine but that will change after we go for a pint and discuss.
Good argument and a sound principle going forward. But if we were offered a player of Carroll's stature and ability at an affordable weekly wage, it would be hard to turn down. It's not going to happen. Eamon's just set a hare running...!
I recon he could be loaned out with a view to a permanent move. Rogers doesn't seem to rate him, so that may fit - if we could get him on a similar deal to Diakate, all be it with a higher fee, then I recon we should go for it. And for the nay-sayers, let's see..... Carrol or Smith.... Although his head may have been turned by Milan.....
