It's got to be a good idea and I am amazed no other clubs in our position haven't thought about trying this approach. We could go on a huge January spending spree to sign loads of top quality players to keep us in the premier league (at all cost). Let's face it, the rewards for staying up are so good financially and it's bound to guarantee our safety so we should do it.

I can't understand why no other teams have done this in the past, perhaps I'm missing a trick. Sign them up on massive salaries too because the TV money is great next season in the premier league.

Let's not worry about the future of the club, let's forget what nearly happened three years ago because lightening doesn't strike twice.

    Anyone else agree?

Do you mean bankrupt? I thought you meant the fans should pay for new players <laugh>

Messi,Ronaldo and kompany will do for starters put them on £350,000 a week each to start and build from there.
Good post FLT I think if we spend around 1 billion that will do it .
I am suprised GMI has never mentioned it.......it's simple really.

I meant encourage them to spend, not us bankrolling. Misleading I agree.

I was also being sarcastic as I keep reading that we need to stay up at all costs. I really don't agree with that sentiment.

Bankruptcy is where that route would end up.

Of course, not "at all costs", that would be silly. But the rewards for staying up justify a little extra spending.

    Obviously that shouldn't imply imprudence.

Sign all the players. I mean all of them. We'll have no difficulty winning against teams forced to pick players at random from the crowd before kickoff (the best of which we'll then sign, naturally), though the competition for playing time will test Nigel's ability to keep players on the bus...not to mention the fact that the bus will now have to be replaced with a much more expansive affair (I'd recommend purchasing all ten of the planned Ford-class aircraft carriers off the Americans), and player numbers will have to be expressed using exponents, which will get a little confusing as superscript numbers can be difficult to read from distance.

It's the prudence I like. I'll never forget three years ago and don't want to ever get that close again. Yes, the rewards financially are huge, but there is no better reward than having a financially "safe" club once you've experienced looking over the edge.

It's where our wage structure comes in. A team that spends significantly on transfers but keeps its wages sane will in all likelihood remain solvent, because it will have the flexibility to sell players if the time comes. It's when you start getting salary bloat and end up with players who cannot be unloaded that things get a wee bit tricky.

Exactly and this is why Cortese is right not to be held to ransom.

Your mission statement and figures are far too conservative for Go Marchin in to give you the time of day. Nothing short of risking sending the club into oblivion will suffice.

That means that you cannot buy players like Ronaldo or Messi as you will be able to recoup the money by selling them. You MUST enlist the help of twitchy and bring in the likes of Rio, Joe Cole, Lampard, Gerrard, Cashley Cole, Drogba on 10 year contracts of £300k weekly and even if they are free agents offer compensation to their clubs. They MUST be players with no resale value should we need to sell.

Then you must employ Jamie in some sort of role i.e. The clubs Wii ambassador and give him higher wages than anyone else.

Crazy wages for all and run up massive debts. Its the way forward here. Its not like we'd end up having to pay it back anyway. And then if i may be so bold to suggest, let us select a businessman and blame him for absolutely everything so other people in Southampton conveniently forget how the trouble started...

Oh if only. I would stupidly buy a small club if I did ever win; much to Mrs FLT's annoyance.

This doesn't go anywhere near far enough. Nicola should give 91 of his friends the money to buy all the other clubs in the Prem and Football League, and send all the promising youth players from all the clubs to our academy. He should then buy News International and BSkyB and all the other media corporations, and starve the other clubs of any TV funds.
