Our captains always seem to leave us and never stick around... So to continue this strategy let's go for someone like Giroud?
I would vote for Per Mertesacker because he seems to motivate the team and has a lot of respect from the other players and he is also of an age that he is one of the experienced players
Then he gets it? I'm just saying ... Arteta was vice-captain. Seems weird you haven't even put him in your poll.
Not sure captains are that important any more, someone to call heads or tales and give little else, all the strategy and motivation comes from the manager these days. Didn't Barca announce 4 captains for this season ? So Arteta will be given the armband and if he's surplus to requirements, as TV5 was, the captain will be on a game by game basis....
I think Ãzil might disagree with you there mate. Don't think it should be Arteta, purely because I can't see him staying in the first team for much longer, especially if we end up signing a defensive midfielder. Mertesacker has a good few years in him left in the starting 11, and that's who I think we should go for.
Daily Mail reporting that Arteta will be captain, with Mertesacker as vice-captain. And let's be honest ... if Arteta was performing well, then people would be saying "yeah, good choice for captain". But we're idiots who know bog all about what goes on in the Arsenal dressing room, have memories of goats and would pick our choice for captain purely on who's on form. Which is not what you do when you pick a captain: you go for who's the best leader and commands the most respect. Mertesacker is set to be vice-captain if the Mail is accurate on this (for once), so he'll get a decent amount of time with the armband too.
Arteta and mert sharing the armband is probably a good thing. I reckon Ramsey is probably somewhere in line after those two.
Mertesacker, our German Tony Adams, he's one of those players you see that really cares and is committed to the cause and the club.
Quality, and for charity too ! I remember Garth Crooks doing an interview with him last year and mentioning his nickname, Mert immediately thought of 'Big ****ing German' and looked slightly confused when Crooks said it stood for Big Friendly Giant
