Sorry i didnt want to start a thread with cesc in it, had enough of those recently. If he does stay with us for another year should he retain his armband or should someone else be given the chance?

Who in our crop of talented players has that special ability to inspire others

well if he does stay and we take it away from him, he would then be even more likely to leave and have less reasons to stay at Arsenal.
Although, isn't the vice captain Van Perisie? Because during the pre-season friendlies Vermaelen has been being captain and i an not sure who else?
personally, i have always had a view that you either have to give the armband to either a big, commanding centre back, or a box to box midfielder who has a massive gob.

  6. I'd say Vermaelen even if he stays.

Cesc is an exceptionally creative player but I don't see him as captain material. He needs to be more vocal, more active in pulling the players together. These qualities do not come naturally to him. Vermaelen would be my choice. RVP makes a good vice captain. I think too that he is less hot-headed than he used to be and that helps if you're going to be a leader.

Totally agree. IF Fab stays, it will hard enough keeping him motivated without the added slap in the face of removing his captaincy.

If he goes, give it to Verm or Mascherano when he signs for us :)

  8. Yes there is that problem of course.

Speaking of captains, I think Arsene's choices of the past few years have been mystifying. Then again, he only has his youngsters to choose from. If he had some more experienced players from whom the boys could take a lead then the choice would have been clear cut. A youth policy is great but it isn't everything.....

Last real Captain was Paddy V. None of his successors including Titi have been Captain Motivator material. I think that we should give the captaincy to T.V now . Don't think it will make any difference to Fab's motivation to stay with us. Can't get any lower than it is already?

i think if rosicky had remained injury free he would have been a very good choice. if cesc leaves, i see it going to v. persie, as he is vice captain; with vermaelen being made vice captain, seeing as he has been captain durign pre season.

I think Arsene belives the team is full of leaders, and everyone is capable of doing whatevers needed, hence the armband isn't that important and cesc has said he doesn't believe in captaining the english way (shouting etc) he believes it should be done by showing them the way etc

but if cesc goes i'd give it Wilshere, he'll sort everyone out and always gives 110%
