Many fans have questioned whether a Fletcher/Wickham partnership up-front would work.Well, tonight,we've beaten Real Betis 2-0,and Fletcher and Wickham played up-front,and both scored!!I know that one swallow doesn't make a summer, but this could be the start of another great partnership up front..like Quinn and Phillips. We can only dream!
Wont happen with Poyet's style mate Giacc went off and Johnson was having a quiet game so just brought Fletch on to give him a run out i reckon Plus Real Betis were relegated last year so wouldnt read too much into the oppo
Sure real betis beat a strong everton side a few nights ago, we all know poyets tactics for next season and this may be a sign of what to expect going into the last 15 mins of a game, poyets tactics evolving i'd say.
Sometimes a style of play evolves by chance, a good manager takes advantage of this. Sticking rigidly to one plan is not always the answer and I think Gus is smart enough to know this. Fletch and Whicks could be a very useful strike force, especially with Whicks who can play the lone striker role in the tougher fixtures, as maybe Jozy can too, with Fletch available if extra fire power is required, these three could give us enough up front for the time being. The modern game is about options and this is just another one.
If you could guarentee an injury free season (which we obviously cant) I am more than happy with the 3 forwards we have assuming that most of the thiem there will be one up front to start with.
Sunderland boss Gus Poyet backs Connor Wickham and Steven Fletcher partnership Sunderland boss Gus Poyet believes a fit-again Steven Fletcher can be the perfect partner for Connor Wickham. The Black Cats are trying to tie up a deal for Liverpool forward Fabio Borini – but Poyet is making plans to go into the new campaign with the same strikers that were available to him during last season’s great escape. That includes Wickham, who became a hero when he hit the goals that helped stave off the threat of relegation, and Fletcher – who has the benefit of a full pre-season behind him after the injury-jinxed campaign that saw some doubt him last year. http://www.thejournal.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/sunderland-boss-gus-poyet-backs-7586045
