**** knows on the horse but I would say the scenery in the background is definitely NOT in the UK so I am thinking this might be a US-based stallion? Or far East? It is a stallion though isn't it? Doesn't look like a racehorse to me
Ron got it then changed his mind Raffingora, track record holder at Epsom carrying 10 stone. Although Raffingora was a chunky beast anyway, here it looks as if he has been enjoying retirement a bit too much
Didn't race as a 2yo. Went into the Epsom Derby unbeaten, but never having contested a group race, and came out of that Derby still unbeaten
I saw him at Ascot and he looked gorgeous, almost wild. His half brother (from the same sire) finished just in front of him that day. Never ran again, sold to Japan.for stallion duties and became leading first-season sire in Japan 3 years later, siring a Japanese champion 2yo filly. He died at the tender age of 17 after fracturing his leg in a paddock accident
Raffingora threw a very smart one in the shape of a stallion called Raffindale. I remember him coming to Australia and creating a real sensation with his bold, front running style. He was a flashy grey who looked impressive as he ran them off their legs. The ghostly grey had a cracking year in 1977 when he won the G1 Marlboro Cup smashing the Caulfield 1400m track record. He then went on to Sydney and won the G1 1977 Epsom over 1600m in 1977, cutting out a then Australian record of 1:33:8. I seem to remember him win another G1, 1600m race is euther Adelaide or Perth.
Just realised we are talking about different horses Cyc. My post #15 was a new "Who is it?" and my post #17 was in response to your post #16, thinking you knew the answer but weren't giving it away
