As usual, it's hard to compare eras within a sport let alone across sports. Everyone has their own favourites and ideas depending on who they've seen. And because of that, my vote for the best sportsman of my generation goes to Roger Federer.
Il will wait to see how Messi's career finishes, how the Federer/Nadal rivalry ends and their post career records end up, what conclusion Schumacher's comeback ultimately reaches
fair points, although schu's comeback won't damage his legacy imo. Sergei Bubka fits in there somewhere and Usain Bolt is just a freak of nature
He was not that great a fighter (got beaten and knocked down quite a few times), he was an abusive shameless individual (his manipulation of the black fanbase and their subsequent treatment of Frazier being a prime example). Tyson was the best boxer EVER but will certainly never enter any people's minds as the greatest sportsman
Define sportsman. If you are just talking about raw talent and ability then plenty of names can enter the fold. But as a whole package, on and off the field of play then the list is cut short. Mike Tyson was a brilliant boxer, but you wouldn't call him sporting. Michael Schumacher as well, sporting isn't always a word synonymous with him. Another example could be Tiger Woods. Perhaps one of the most talented sportmen on the planet, but again, the whole package on and off the golf course?
Pffft! Now don't get me wrong, I thought Tyson was phenomenal, but the best boxer ever? I'd have Ali, Leonard and possibly even Mayweather (yes he's a prick, but you can't fault his ability) above Tyson. Just an opinion though...as is yours.
