By realistically, I mean without offering an amount of money/wages that far outstrips their actual worth, IE, hypothetically we could sign Messi by borrowing £300m from the bank etc... But who is the best guy we can sign with the budget we have (Rumoured to be around £60m or something) that would actually want to play for Arsenal without having to be on wages that would be extortionate in comparison to the rest of the club. I'm thinking more of your Goetze's than your C.Ronaldos...
Hazard, but apparently he has signed a 40 million pre contract thing with real, zidane has so much swing in this deal
It depends on what area needs the most strengthening in January. Park looks pretty solid if needed to be coupled with RVP, and our CM's are playing pretty well at the moment. Would like to see what our defence is like with Verm/Kos, Verm/Merte. Our wingers look strong: Miyaichi,Gerv,Walcott,Oxo,Arshavin, even enough to possibly play Walcott through the middle. I think Santos has done well, and can compete if he continues to adapt, I especially like his work rate. Jenkinson continues to improve if Sagna picks up more injuries Jenkinson may be able to fill in permanently later in the season. I think if in terms of players then, someone like a Subotic, or possibly Higuain are reachable. (I think Hazard is out of reach, Wenger didnt push hard enough to get him this summer or Lille were too stubborn to deal with Arsenal). Goetze is a possibility but highly sought after. I think we'd have more luck with M'Villa , Honda or a Hamsik.
Simple answer for me is Alonso, everything at Liverpool went through him and when he left all their problems started, he is simple a game manager, a dominant presence with incredible vision. He wouldn't cost a fortune given his age but he could easily be the Vieira type we have been missing abd I think will make a huge difference to the way the team is set up
Realistic players we may bring in: Gourcuffe (club needs to sell) or Cahill (out of contract shortly) Players i'd like to see: Hazard (will we splash £40mil?), Kaka (still think he'd be worth it if the right deal could be arranged - but unlikely a deal we'd be happy with could be reached), Higuain (he is a player i really like) It'll be interesting to see if we spend more cash in January or not - i think we may well see a new face but will AW decide to spend large to guarantee that 4th spot? Tbh i'd be happy if any of the names above where added to our squad!
It definitely depends on the run up til Christmas. 3 or 4 games ago you would have said big investment was needed. but with the players gelling, Wilshere, Sagna, & Vermaelen as first choice players who will be returning, and some good recent wins, Arsenal are back in the mix. If they're more than a couple of points and faltering a little outside the top4, I'd expect maybe 2 or 3 players to come in, otherwise I think a max of 2. Not sure what positions - possibly a GK as Fabianski seems to want to leave and he'll probs wana go in January so he has a chance for the Euro's next summer.
We almost got alonso but wenger wouldn't cough up an extra 2 million, imagine if he did... If hazard does go to Madrid, he will be wasting his talents.
Why would you post such a pointless article??? wenger isn't stupid enough to go and spend £40m on a player, he could buy 3 or 4 top quality players for that amount, why are you getting caught up in this stupid spending spree going on at the moment, we aren't man city or real madrid or chelsea we aren't as senseless as them. So just leave wenger to it because he knows that the players we bought in the summer aren't good enough so he will have targets in january, hazard may be one of them but we will have to wait, enough of this rubbish speculation just concentrate on the fact that we have won 7 of the last 8 and have a massive match against chelsea on saturday, wait until januray before speculating.
The reason we didn't buy Alonso is because Liverpool wouldn't sell him once their deal to buy Gareth Barry fell through
Do we really need Hamsik? I think Arshavin is better than him in the central attacking midfielder role.
For me Gotze looks like he would be the best signing we could make. He is the playmaker that we need to replace Fabregas with. Don't think he'd come cheap - but if the board stick to their word and allow Wenger to spend £30m on one player as they said they would, then I think we could sign him.
We had a few large money offers rejected in the summer if reports where to be believed including offers for Gotze and M'villa
Even if they had been accepted, we would still need a wage restructure in order to actually sign these players.
Probably - we might have to revisit our wage structure if we want to be signing players like him though.....
